I have a hp media center pc Model a1210n which recently has had a clean install to factory condition done by by son-in- law. Now the DVD does not read disc

The DVD is a Sony DVD RW DW-Q30A. As I am not real familar with computers it is hard to explain but, iI believe some service packs may be missing, if that has anything to do with it. I need a starting point to start troubleshooting the problem. Can someone help? Thanks in advance!

DVD codecs are missing. You can download a codec pack for free and install. This should solve your prob. Older DVD rom drives did not come with onboard codecs. When you format and reinstall the registered codec can get cleaned away. Like baby out with the bathwater...............

SOURCE: Unable to open live TV in HP PC Media Center

Look at the alerts in the security and firewall of Norton antivirus. It might be blocking it. also keep an eye on your bottom right corner when you attempt the live TV. Norton may be alerting you about the blocks in that area. Make sure you allow those connections. I would check Norton firewall and security before messing with the Windows firewall.
