Try setting the machine in direct sunlight with the back cover off and let it get nice and warm. It might even need a little assistance from a hair drier. Warm the area directly behind the reverse button. If you can get it to move a little, you will see which parts are moving. Use Tri-Flow on these parts and they may come loose without having to take it in for service. DO NOT USE WD-40 or 3-IN-1 oil. Go to a bicycle shop and get a small bottle of Tri-Flow liquid. If that won't work, any authorized Husqvarna Viking repair center should be able to take care of it for you. Don't force anything too hard. If you break anything, you may not be able to find parts as they are no longer available from the manufacturer.

Turned on a recently "inherited" Viking Sapphire 850 sewing machine. There was what sounded like a bobbin rolling around somehow inside the top of the machine....thread was unwionding through. I gently...

Ooops...it sounds like a board has gone bad. There must be something metal loose inside the machine to cause a short like that. You need to find an authorized Viking dealer to assist you. The boards have a 5 year warranty, maybe you will fit into that period. It's probably best no to mention that an object in the machine caused the problem.
Best wishes!

I had this same problem, on my Designer Diamond. I blew it out with an air can and that didn't work, but then I decided to turn it off, then back on and start sewing a line in reverse. That seemed to fix it. My machine is working fine now.

Sapphire computerized machine 850 the stitches are too loose from the bobbin side. I just got the machine, I am baffled

Get out the manual. Open and place it next to the sewing machine.

Read each step, beginning with winding the bobbin and threading.

I believe you will find that you threaded the machine with the presser foot down.

Presser foot down when threading = closed tension.
Closed tension = thread cannot enter when the machine is being threaded.

No thread in the tension control = no control of the thread as the needle attempts to create a stitch with the bobbin thread.

Continue testing each feature of the machine according to the manual and you will soon be proficient in the operation of your new machine.
