Electical connection for ru98e

Where do I connect the white and black wires from the service panel to the unit

    Thank you Gene for your response. I can appreciate not having one physically available to reference. The electrical schematric was good, however it was somewhat confusing at first to transfer the diagram to the physical product. The only way I did so was to puill the board and trace out the wires. Rinnai RU98e is gas water heater with .4 gallon per minute activation.
This tankless gas water heater plugs into ordinary 120Volt 60 Hz outlet and consumes 63 watts when running.

For electric tankless:

    Thank you for your help. While the information provided is good stuff, I was looking to address the Rinnai RU98e specifically. I did finally figure out the solution but, only after taking out the circut board and tracing the wiring. Again thank you for your help.

    Page 16 of manual has electrical schematic. Otherwise I don't have that particular product to take apart. The questions we see onscreen are shortened sometimes. While other questions are too brief to know exactly what is meant. So I occasionally give a start-point-answer to get expanded response from asker. Many folks have already found solution before I can get back to them. But fixya people certainly try.

0 when i check it i only get 120 on both when i ground then in 0 when i check the white to black is this right the make is a ge 19.9 hot water heater

You did not post the make and model of the unit. However you should have three wires on a 120 volt heater. Black is HOT. White is neutral and green or bare copper is ground. Anything that you check with a meter connected to black should show 120. white connected to ground across the meter would show 0.

How can I make a thermostat connection?

Good morning Yakup.

The best way is to write down how the old t-stat was wired. If that's not available, the only way to determine for certain where each wire goes, is to check what the installer did at the terminals in your home comfort system. Please note the there is high voltage electric in each piece of equipment so if you decide to open up panels, there is always the risk of damaging the equipment or worse, injury or death if you are not a qualified service technician. However, typical color assignments are as follows:
R= (24v from heating appliance) Red
RC= (24v from cooling appliance) Red
These two are only separated when you have two different appliances providing seasonal comfort, like a boiler and an air handler. If you have a warm air furnace with an air conditioner or a heat pump attached then R+RC will have a jumper across them and only one RED wire will be landed there
W= (heat) White
Y= (cool) Yellow
G= (fan) Green
Those colors are pretty standard
The rest of the colors depend on availability in the jacket and are really up to the installer. You mentioned 7 wires but 8 conductors is more likely so I'm assuming the remaining colors are black, brown, blue, and orange.
I always use the following:
C= (common) Black
O/B= (reversing valve for a heat pump) Orange if the valve is energized for heat and Blue if the valve is energized for a/c.
Aux/E= (auxiliary or electric heat) Brown
L= I believe this is a diagnostic terminal for some systems with feedback data and is not used frequently.
After wiring there is some programing to do to set up your new thermostat to your type of system.

Hope that helps. God bless and be careful.

How to wire tempra 24 plus

1) Copy following link for wiring tankless electric water heater:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-Tankless-electric-water-heater.html

2) Look at label on side of unit for total KW

3) Product manual shows 24 Kw or 24,000 watts
24,000 watts divided by 240 volts = 100 amps
So your service panel must be about 250Amp rating to support this tankless electric water heater.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Tempra_tempra-plus-Tankless-electric-water-heater-manual.pdf

4) Look inside the unit to see how many L1L2 terminals show.
You should have two sets L1L2 terminals
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Terminals-2-tankless-200.jpg

5) You need TWO 60 amp double pole breakers to supply power to this unit.
This means you need TWO #6 wires from one breaker going to L1L2.
And you need TWO MORE #6 wires from 2nd breaker to other set of L1L2 terminals.

Wiring an electric water heater

Hello,You are correct! Black/blue=black & Yellow=white 220volt single phase power.There are 3 wires for 3 phase power connection NOT the case in a home.Also an "off peak"timer option would use (black) only controlling the bottom element and (blue) controlling the top element.
