The toner could be low. That is the first thing I would check.

when you replaced the developer, did you clean the "mag roll" of baked on toner? Very common problem on this model. Of course you initialized the SP mode 2-801, and 2-805 right? -Carl

I have a Canon PC 740 photocopier about 8years old. The problem is that the printed photocopy is very faint. I have just renewed the cartridge but still very faint? Can you give me advice please?

Hiya, Ive got one of these copiers, but its out on loan to a charity but I seem to remember that inside there was a switch / slidebar that you could alter that adjusted the darkness of the copies, also there is the slide switch on the top of the copier on the front panal, try adjusting that, but when you need to do that you have to press the button next to it so it goes in to a manual mode.
Good luck

Making a clean copy of an old fainted typed document

A good, free photo-editor is
The best option to go for is "Curves". You will see a single line from the left-bottom to the right top. Pick it somewhere in the middle, and move it up/down to make the fainted gray text go darker, while the lightgray background remains white. You can also move both endpoints, or add additional points to the curve you have created by now.
Play with it, and see what looks the best

When photocopying, a copy is made however the text also appears faintly in the background. (Model no: Xerox WorkCentre XD120F)

That would be either a bad heat roll or pressure roll.
In the area where the copy exits, the hot fuser area, eithet the heat roller, TOP roll or pressure roller, Bottom red roller are worn.
Easiest thing would be to replace the fuser.
