1.If you purchase an external USB CD drive you will not need to use your floppy discs for booting. 2. You can connect a USB CD drive to your system. 3. Your system will recognize any device plugged into your USB drive. 4. There is no CD drive available for internal installation in your computer. 5. With the USB CD drive plugged in and the windows installation disc inserted, your computer should take you through the setup program automatically.

When I turn on my laptop pc every couple days a black screen will come up and the laptop stops processing. Why? How to fix it?

I would suspect a glitch in the MBR/software, a black screen with a white cursor in the top left, BUT, Try this , when you shut down always unplug, remove battery when you use at home connected to AC. At boot in BIOS, BOOT sequence, change to Boot from HDD first. Also remove DVD's, CD's from the DVD/CD rom drive, if the machine has boot from DVD/CD rom as a default, it will try to read the disk in the drive first, delaying a switch to second HDD boot. This is a general idea in the Boot sequence procedure: http://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/change-boot-order-xp-vista/

How do you flash the BIOS

What happens when you turn the computer on?

If the bios is working enough to enable you to boot from a CD download the new bios from asus along with there AFUDOS.exe flash utility and make a bootable CD and copy both to it.

If the bios is completly none functional you should be getting this msg when you turn the computer on,
Boot Block Compatible Version Ver .010
Bad BIOS checksum. Starting BIOS Recovery
Checking for floppy . .
Floppy not found
Checking for CD rom . . .
CD not found
Checking for floppy . .
Floppy not found
Checking for CD rom . . .
CD not found

Repeat adinfinitum.
If this is the case you need download the most recent BIOS from compaq and either copy it to a bootable CD if you have this capability or buy a floppy drive for $5 and make a bootable floppy on a working computer and copy this BIOS file to it. Then rename the bios file to A8N32SLI.ROM.

You may not even need make the floppy bootable but I would just in case.

Stick the floppy in the drive turn the computer on and you will see

Boot Block Compatible Version Ver .010
Bad BIOS checksum. Starting BIOS Recovery
Checking for floppy . . .
Floppy found.
Reading file "A8N32SLI.ROM" . Completed.
Start Erasing...
Start programing . . ./
Please turn off your system and power on again to get system back.

and happy days will be here.

Gigabyte G41MT-S2P can't boot on cd/dvd rom (installing win7)

If both the HDD and the CD/DVD drive contain bootable devices, the BIOS will usually ask just before starting the HDD boot, while still on the black screen, "Press any key to boot from CD". If you don't watch for this (it's usually at the very bottom or top of the screen), then the system will boot to the HDD.

BOOTMGR is missing

This may be due to the reason that your Compaq model is only Vista or Win7 Compatible.I didn't get your question properly but as you're having no windows or DOS in your machine. All you need is a Bootable Windows Disc and a working DVD rom to get this done.Cause commands or anything else will require that and even if you fix it with some tricks. Some Other file missing message may appear. But if you just want to push yourself. Normally are Booting files are in the root folder in my case it's in C:\ like NTLDR BOOT.ini BootSect.dos so try to access your root drive.

Ntldr is missing at startup

To fix your problem please follow the below steps.
1. Locate your Windows XP/2000 installation disc and place it in your CD/DVD ROM drive. If you don't have this disk, then you cannot proceed further.
2. Restart your computer.
3. When the computer restarts press any key on your keyboard when you are prompted, "Press any key to enter setup." Most computers are configured to boot to another device other than a hard drive. Since the Windows XP/2000 installation disk is bootable, you should see the prompt. However, if you don't see the prompt you may need to change your boot priority in your BIOS. To do so, enter the system BIOS by following the onscreen instructions upon startup. Then navigate to the Boot Priority menu and modify another device, such as a CD-ROM to boot prior to the hard drive. Then reboot your computer.
4. After you have pressed any key, the Windows XP/2000 setup screen will appear. After loading, press the "R" key to repair the Windows installation. The screen will appear black. The computer requests which installation you would like to log in. Generally speaking, press "1" and "Enter." If you have more than one hard drive or more than one partition, the procedure may be different. You must know which hard drive or partition your Windows operating system is installed in. You are subsequently prompted for a password. If you haven't set up one up, you can just leave the query blank and press "Enter." The phrase "c:\WINDOWS>" and a blinking cursor subsequently appear.
5. Type "copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\windows" (without quotes), where "D" is the letter of your CD/DVD ROM drive (your optical drive may be different, especially if you have more than one). Eject the CD from the drive and type "Exit" (without quotes) to restart your computer. The NTLDR file will be copied from the installation disc to your hard drive.
Thanks for contacting Fixya. Have a good day.

Hi, I'm installing widows xp in HP Compaq nc6220, but after setup loading files the mesaage (bottom of setup screen) "Setup is starting windows", then it did'nt contiue the installation,...

1 many times the the CD cant load as the files in the CD are corrupt or the CD is not read by the drive corectly...so get a new WinXP CD
2 try an external CD drive if your BIOS alows to boot from USB drive....(connect the external CD drive to the USB and make necessary changes to the BIOS boot seq in the BIOS screen...
BIOS screen can be enabled by pressing the F1, or F2 or the Del key as on as you start the PC
3 once in BIOS screen look for boot seq and change the boot drive to the foll
1st boot device - USB CD / DVD rom drive
2nd boot device - internal CD rom drive
and so on

if you can do the above then try the WinXP installation using the external CD rom drive....
else there is a little complicated method of using a pen drive thru USB (will discuss that later) provided your BIOS alows booting from USB

Ibm t30 -black screen comes up with missing operating system

Sir, It seems there is no Operating System(OS) installed in your laptop.
Check is you have got any Operating System (eg : Windows XP, Vista, 7) CD/DVD provided to you. Or else, try to get it from any computer retailer shop or buy it from microsoft.com. If you have any such CD/DVD, Insert it in the CD/DVD ROM (drive). And press f10 key during the boot screen (the black screen) and choose " First Boot Device " as Cd/DVD ROM and it will appear as " Press any key to boot from cd", press any key and you will get through the Operating System Installation Screen. Follow the procedures, at one point you should format the partition (drive) where you choose to install that particular OS. And follow the procedures, enter all information it asks like product key (it will found on the OS CD/DVD package) and other registration information. Once you done wit all these, your laptop will work fine. Thank You.

When i start my lap top is say's a a disk read error occurred press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart an it keeps bringing me back to the samething?

Remove any CD-ROM disk from the CD-ROM drive.
Disconnect all USB devices.
If your computer has a 3.5" diskette-drive, remove any media from the drive.

Restart.

Your computer is trying to read from your disk-drive,
but it has not been successful, i.e., an "Input/Output Error" (I/O error) has occurred when trying to "read" from your disk-drive.

Find a qualified technician, to see if _any_ of your files can be recovered from your disk-drive.

Hi! My Fujitsu amilo laptop will not respond when turned on even when the recovery disc is inserted there is no response. there is a blue screen and a mention of runtime error in a dialogue box and that is...

Go to BIOS and set the first boot priority to boot from CD ROM. Hope this will solve the problem.

If the Blue Screen is still coming then Download "Hiren's Boot CD"

here is the download link :
http://hirens.longcomputerservices.com/Hirens.BootCD.10.1.zip

Extract the downloaded file with Winrar or winzip and Burn the ISO image in a CD and boot the system using that CD from the CD-ROM.

Try to repair the Hard Drive with the tools available inside.Hard Drive error also cause "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH".

Reboot the system normally and check out.

Hope it solve your problem.
