Hook up laptop to computer

I have a dell computer and a toshiba regeza lcd tv. I am trying to hook up them so I am able to watch videos from my computer larger on tv. I have bought a vga chord that connects the two of them but when I change my F8 key to the right settings it shows up as "unsuported video signal" but when I went to hibernate my computer i saw the microsoft logo came up as it was on the pc. How can I get the picture to show up on my television?

It is still telling me that the video signal is unsupported. I dont know what else to do because everything is plugged in correctly but the picture just won't come up.

Your computer may be running at a higher resolution than is supported by your TV. Lower your laptop's resolution to 800x600 and try again. If it works, you may be able to raise the resolution higher, perhaps 1024x768.

To change the laptop's resolution, go to the desktop and right click and select "Properties". Select the "settings" tab. You will see a box labeled "Screen Resolution", slide the slider to the left as far as possible. Then, plug in the laptop to the TV and select the appropriate input from the TV.

Hope this helps.

    Try lowering the refresh rate.
    1. Right click on the desktop, choose properties.
    2. Select the "Settings" tab, click "Advanced" in the bottom right corner.
    3. A new window will come up. Choose the "Monitor" tab.
    4. Lower the refresh rate to the lowest setting available and try again with your TV.

If this still doesn't work, consider using an S-Video cable instead of VGA.

Laptop broken screen... plugged in Dell monitor, still doesnt work

You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

Well bud it actualy depends on the TV that you are using.
Some TV's do not accept the signal form the NB.
try to use a different TV and after connecting it to ur TV press and hold on the FN key and tap on F5 to transfer the display to the TV.

Olevia 232T and S-Video

Are you sure you actually have an S-video input on that TV. The specifications I find don't show one. (http://www.olevia.com/en-us/Products/2Series/232TLCDHDTV.aspx#2
If you do, you might have to select video on your remote in order to see the input. If you have the instructions for the tv, look at those.
Otherwise, try downloading your users guide for the laptop and see where it points you

Getting m laptop on the tv screen

You should go to toshibas site. And download the User Manual if possible. this will usually be in Adobe Acrobat format.
Some laptops ( Not all ) have a certain key for example F7 Or F8 that when you start your laptop. you can press fn And F7 To switch between lcd and vga. or fn And F8 LCD-TV.
Alternatively is to re-install your operating system and hopefully this should put the system back to it,s factory default values.
Finally is to enter the bios setup, and change the initial display settings in there.
Hope this helps resolve your problem.
Mike.
