The eMachines E640 series of Notebook PC's, draws air from the bottom with it's Fan Assembly. As such it draws in Dirt, dust, hair, lint, food crumbs, you name it. This collects on the Fan Assembly's fan blades, center hub, and surrounding cage. (Shroud) This can offset the balance of the fan blade very easily. Then the fan will hit the shroud when turning. Or the fan's bearings are shot, and this lets the fan blades hit the shroud. Or you need to clean the inside of the laptop out, (Using an ESD wrist strap, and connected to a good ground source), plus replace the Thermal Paste. The loud noise from the latter issue, would be the fan is spinning at top speed continuously.

SOURCE: How to clean or replace cooling fan? Upon power

This is actually normal for the cooling fans up to full power for a few seconds when the laptop starts. When any computer starts, it performs a Power-On Self Test (POST), most laptops test to see if the fans are functional by spinning them up to 100% power for a few seconds. If the fans don't spin up during bootup the laptop will mark them as failed and will notify you to change the fans.

Hope this helps

Emachines laptop keep freezing and making loud buzzing noise when i listen to music. please help

The buzzing/grinding noise is probably a bad connection if you are using earphones. Put a couple of drops of rubbing alcohol on some toilet paper and clean the prong for your earphones. Wait a minute and reinsert the plug into the jack. As for the freezing up of the video, you might want to download and install your video drivers for your emachine. Go to the manufacturer's web page to find the right ones. Don't forget to reboot after installations.

Loud grinding or humming noise

It sounds like you have a fan with a bunch of gunk on it. Get a can of compressed air and clean out all the vents and fans.

Also, take a close look at your video card's fan. It might be the culprit. Many times when they are about to die they make a lot of noise...

My emachine t1090 is making extremely loud whineing noises( like my bathroom fan when it is dirty). I took the casing off of the machine and cleaned it with compressed air, alos took casing off of the fan...

you have a ball bearing fan, after awhile, the fans ball bearing move around, thats were you are hearing the whining noises. All you have to do is replace the fan with the high piched sound.

My computer makes a loud noise in the fan

The drive door issue may indicate a virus infection. As to the fan, you would have it replaced. If not under warranty open the case and track which fan the noise is coming from

When I turn on my emachine computer, I now get a louder whirring noise. Is this dirt accumulation on the hard drive fan?

Well there is no fan on the actual Harddive Fans, Unless you mean the PC Case fans, in which dust built up on it wouldn't make a loud whirring noise. If it is, it's because the fan's ballbearings are bad and you need to replace it.
The harddrive is a Small rectangular silver or black box on the inside of the case towards the front. If the loud noises have started coming from there then the Harddrive is going bad, and you might want to back up your data immediatly.

Post any comments for further help, hope this answers your question. Feel free to leave positive feedback, and thank you for stopping by Fixya!

Loud Fan Noise

Usually the fan on graphic card dies first. It can be replaced with another one but I'd suggest you to build in 80 or 100 mm fan to blow directly on your graphic card cooler. Remove the lid and check if perhaps some cable has fallen close/into fan blade. It must be one of those two. I'm 90% certain.

Emachine T3508 Loud Loud Loud

The only sure way to quiet it down is to replace the hard drives with newer ones, that you have selected based on their noise rating, AND to replace all the fans in the machine with fans that you have selected based on their noise rating. I did this for my self-built machine last year and never regretted spending the money on new drives and new fans. It's SO much quieter! ;)
