We need the full model number from the tag on the unit to be able to help you with specific advice. Also, did it fail when you hit the "start" pad to begin cooking? Is the display lit? Does the inside light come on when you open the door? Is there any beep when you press a pad on the keypad?

SOURCE: My kenmore microwave automatically starts and can not be stopped

If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open.

Is it possible that some spray cleaner got into the controls?

I always recommend that users instead spray cleaner on a soft cloth then wipe the control panel.

Also, I always recommend non-ammonia cleaners since ammonia can crack and damage plastic.

Otherwise, the spray can get into the controls and lock it up or make it act odd.

If it does not dry out over time, it may need to be manually dried or blown out.

The keypad may be damaged or worn out, or control unit may be damaged.

On some models, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and move the circuit board into your frame.

Some connectors on the relays may have a lock:

Not realy...Kenmore Elite microwave runs 3 seconds then stops. All other functions work ok. Model 790.80363310

Not familiar with That Kenmore elite model. But with the symptoms I would bet your unit may have an inverter, which is the power source for the part that puts out the microwave energy the Magnetron to run, If that is the case it could be a bad inverter AND a bad magnetron. If the unit isn't anything really special to you I would recommend replacing it as the repair will be quite expensive

The other day my microwave quit cooking and the turntable stopped turning. The fan still turns on and the light still works as if it is cooking but it doesn't. We shut off the power and tried again but it...

It may just be a bad door switch. See this file.

Kenmore microwave (2 y/o) will stop soon after you hit start.

A quick test. Switch off power then remove outer cover. Look for the transformer. remove the two wires connected to the primary side. Note, do not toutch anything else. power still sitting on the cap. With those two thin wires disconnected, make sure they are not toutching each other or leaning on the metal frame. Set a program that has been a problem and let it run. If it still stops and does what its not supposed to do, your board needs replacement.

Microwave stopped working, no power. Checked

There are two thermal fuses.

One is located on the magnetron and another one is located on top of the left side of the cavity under the air duct. The microwave has to be removed from the cabinet to access the second one.

The problem turned out to be a 20 amp fuse that I was able to replace and the unit is working fine. Sometimes a blind squirrel finds nuts.

Kenmore microwave

i fixed by unplugging the microwave with the door open. I plugged it back in and the F6 was gone. I was then able to set the clock and turn the light on/off . When I closed the microwave door, the F6 came back on and the microwave was making a humming noise. I slapped the side of the microwave near the keypad, and the F6 cleared from the readout and the humming stopped. The microwave is working fine now. Don't know why, except maybe slap on the side reset a relay or something. Anyway, I will never by a Sears Kenmore appliance for the rest of my life. The door rattles when you open a close it (like a part inside the door is broken) and this is the second time a fault code has appeared during use. I had GE Profile appliances at my last house, which are more $$ initial cost, but who wants to screw around buying a new microwave every four or five years. I'll happily spend a couple hundred more for the peace of mind and knowing that it will work during Thanksgiving dinner with the family over.
