Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies
Can you print using only one cartridge?
Posted by Anonymous on
Canon printers in general will not let you continue with a cartridge missing. If however you have a printer that just takes two single ink cartridges it is likely that the printer will allow you to continue even when the printer believes the colour cartridge is empty. You will however have to give a simple one off prompt to give the printer your blessing to continue when it gets to this point.
If you have any doubts please let me know the model number of your printer and I will advise further.

Write to Lexmark - you won't get any joy, but their reply might be interesting. I suspect that Lexmark builds a chip into their cartridges preventing it being refilled. When replying to me they did not admit this, but did not deny it, simply stating that their cartridges were designed for single use only. When I said that, apart from the cost, I wanted to minimise my impact on the environment by refilling cartridges, they pointed out their proud association with Planet Ark. I suspect that Planet Ark is happy to be an apologist for corporate vandals, and I seriously question their 'green' credentials. Order your next cartridges from Europe where the printer companies are not allowed to chip their products.

SOURCE: Cannot print in black only
It is not wise to leave the cartridges empty, causes permanent print-head damage on the empty color area. However, if you want to use the other color, say "black", bypassing the cartridge check is simply resetting the counter of the printer... download the utility file "sscserve.exe" you can search it on the internet. Install it then choose your printer on its list box, then by right-clicking on the printer icon of the utility at the bottom right of your window... you should be able to see what you need. Happy printing!!!

If you have carried out 4 to 5 head cleans, waited about 8 hours and done another 3 or head cleans doing nozzle checks after each clean (as recommended by the manual) and there is still no improvement then you will need a third party head cleaning solution such as this one:
Other makes & brands are available just google "inkjet head cleaning solution" Hope this helps.
