your optical block is failing. Sony has a program for replacing them if you want, or they will offer you a new TV.
call this number 239-768-7604 and tell them what you TV's symptoms are and they will get you started
this problem has to do with te optics in the tv...not the lamp. I had the same problem, even after replacing the lamp. I called sony & they are replacing the tv with a 2010 Sony Bravia 40'. Free! For a fee of $325 I could have got a 46" or for $725 a 55". I went with the 40". Try working it out with sony. It worked for me and only took a 5 minute phone call. Good Luck
same thing is happening to me.....i chatted with a sony "expert" on sony's website he told me to use different inputs for the sources, im like listen pal, this is happening on hd channels also, where else can i plug the antenna? no response from the expert lol, but im still looking for an answer
Light Engine sony has real problem with them ,depends on how old but was told Sony updated warranty on Light engines because of so many going BAD.Call company to see if they will help replace it ,only other thing maybe dust or dirt on optal lense of the light engine. If this turns out sony wont pay for you another one,if that is whats bad Go to E-BAY Ive seen different ones up on auction,or call UED 1-800-648-6657 for rebuilt light engine.
The LCD green or blue inside the optical block is defective now. the optical block is the core of the tv (is the projector inside the unit "expensive"). make sure calling to Sony company and try to see in your particular serial # is covered under an extended warranty for this particular set. or at least ask them where you can get a good autorized workshop close to your area.
Contact sony as they have been helping customers with the blue spot issue on alot of the wega as the optical block fails causing the blue spots.Sony will cover the cost of the repair. Heres the link to Sony explaining what they will do. http://esupport.sony.com/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=206&mdl=KDF42WE655
