I have cleaned my ionic pro multiple times. The "clean" light has never come on. Anywho, It keeps making this buzzing noise and it is really annoying and I want to know how to make it clean my air quietly... Any ideas?

Is it a buzzing sound or more like a screetch? I have one and have had it for a year and it does it on and off it makes a sound like the emergency broadcast system thing on TV like its faint but enough to hear and its annoying as heck. Ive cleaned the blades, the charging wire and the contacts at the bottom and still same issue. Ive called CS and they keep giving me the same BS that it needs to be cleaned weekly. Ok if thats the case explain how I can put it through a cleaning on Sunday night only to have this annoying sound return on a Tuesday night after minimal to no operaiton.. anyone else having the same issue?

I love the machine because it works very well to clean air. However, I have the same problem with the noise. I just bought this unit for a month now from Walmart. After cleaned it a few times because my husband is a smoker, it starts to making buzzing noise (static noise to me). I listened to it and it sounds like it was from the back of the machine. I cleaned everything (including the string in the back). The first day after I cleaned the string in the back, the buzzing noise had stopped for about 6-7 hours. Now, it comes back again, and it won't stop no matter what I do. I'm now taking it back to Walmart to get a new one. Hopefully the new unit won't give me the same problem again.

usually, cleaning gets rid of the sound. But not this time. I'm planning to wait until this afternoon and test again. if it still crackles, I'll take it apart and vacuum out all the dust.

I found that the buzzing can be removed by blowing out the unit, cleaning the blades and taking a long cotton swab and alcohol to thoroughly clean the corona wire - carefully - don't break it. The wire should be clean enough that the slider/wiper runs smoothly up and down the wire after cleaning. If it drags or is rough to slide, you will still have noise no matter how many times you clean the blades. The wire gets a "crust" on it.

I will tell you all what the problem is and how to fix it with 100% certainty. Take the air cleaner outside and lay it on its back. Attach a small cotton or microfiber towel about 5 to 8 inches square to a thin rod. Soak, and I mean SOAK the towel with rubbing alcohol. Then, with your thin rod, push the towel over the three thin wires. Be careful to very lightly drag the towel over the wires so as not to bend or break them. Let the unit dry completely (or help it with a hair dryer). The zapping, buzzing, crackling noise WILL BE GONE. I give you this at no charge, though I am willing to take donations as I am sure this will save many folks BUCCO BUCKS in restored air cleaners! Let me know if it works for you!

When I saw "100% certainty" I thought, "Yeah, right..." I've been fighting this noise for years. I used to love the Ionic Breezes and after they were scarce, even on eBay, I got an Ionic Pro. I like them when they worked but eventually they all got to hissing so bad I couldn't stand to have them on, not to mention that they even *sound* unsafe when they're hissing. Your advice about alcohol cleaning the corona wires, plus another person's who said watch it in the dark to see where the arcing/hissing is coming from, enabled me to get my Ionic Pro going again PLUS an Ionic Breeze GP that I haven't used in years. I don't mind spending 1/2 hour cleaning them if they will actually behave for a while. GREAT ADVICE! THANKS!

Incidentally, on the Ionic Breeze GP, in addition to cleaning the corona wires, I had to clean one more place. There are two rubber coated bars that run vertically between the three plates of the collector. Near the bottom, I could see arcing between these plates and the collector plates. I used the alcohol and microfiber cloth again to thoroughly clean theses plates at the bottom. p.s. Remove the collector grid first, and also on this model there is a plastic shield between the UV bulb and corona wires. This shield is held in place by two small phillips screws. Removing these screws gives much easier access to the corona wires.

On my ionic pro, there is a small tab on the right rear that you can pull up to clean the wires inside the tower. It seems like the blades must be inserted for you to pull on it. This solved the buzzing sound. Oh, and if you look closely at the wires in the dark when it is makng the noise, you can see the static charge.

I can hear these annoying static noises through home theater with 3 12" woofers.... I mean this crackling sound cuts through the loud and keeps annoying. I think this is just the poor brand... I've heard there are some good brands that don't have these issues....
Oh btw... in conjunction with Areca Palm tree you get the purest air ever ^_^ like in forest =))) Areca Palm is a #1 indoor plant that converts Co2 into H2o while some good branded ionic purifier eliminates the pollution ^_^

No matter how much I clean the machine after it is turned on for 10 min or more it starts to buzz and make a static noise, any other suggestions?

The buzzing noise is not from dust in the air purifier, it's from the dust and pollutants in the air, it's now picking up. It should stop once the air is cleaned.

Makes buzzing sound after cleaning blades

I keep the blades clean. Really clean. I'm a smoker, and you would not believe the crud that accumulates on those "blades"... <g>

First, I spray the blades with "PurplePower" cleaner/degreaser (from AutoZone), then I wipe them down with a sponge, then rinse with hot water. then dry them with compressed air (I have a compressor...).

FWIW, "Windex" works pretty good too, but... the degreaser really works well on the cigarette "residue"..

Second, there are two long wires inside that also have to be cleaned, periodically.

If your unit has the "pull-tab" cleaner, use it. One of my units has it. The other two don't.

On the ones that don't have the built-in cleaner, I stick a chopstick in through the rear vents, and CAREFULLY rub it against the sides of those wires, which "scrapes" the "white crud" off of the wires. Take your time. You will likely have to "change locations" several times in order to access the full length of both wires.

NOTE: those wires are fairly durable, but BE CAREFUL with them.

Either way, after cleaning the wires, I then "blow" the unit clean with compressed air.

Voila! No more buzzing. Until the next time the wires get "crudded up".
