Question about Zenith XBR716

Recorded dvd's won't play in another dvr

We just finished recording our vhs home movies over to dvd's using the zenith xbr716 combo unit. everything worked great. We're able to see and watch the new dvd's in the zenith unit, then we tried viewing them on another dvr. We tried 4-5 different types and all gave us the same result, error reading disk .We use Maxwell dvd-r disks.
Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

We've experienced the same problem. Our new DVDs won't play in any other DVD PLAYER OR COMPUTER. This can't be right?

The problem is not the dvds themselfs it is the other play that you are trying to play them in (some players do not play DVD- and DVD+ or any other of self recorded disks) Look on the players box to see all what types of disks it can play!

Is the VHS tape you are trying to record a commercial VHS tape (movie)? If so, it may have copy protection on it. The recorder is probably programmed to prevent you from making and using DVDs of commercial copy-protected VHS tapes.

Hi there,

The Zenith player/recorder will be able to record to DVD from an external input such as a PVR. The most likely reasons you are unable to record successfully are:

1. The TV / DVR is not connected to the Zenith recorder correctly. You need a separate cable for recording. You cannot record using the cable that is connected for playback of DVD discs.
2. The TV / DVR does not have "VIDEO OUT" sockets
3. You have not selected the correct external input on the Zenith recorder

If you can let me know the brand and model number of your TV / DVR and how it is connected to the Zenith DVD recorder, I can let you know why it isn't working, how to make it work, and even draw you a setup diagram, if required. It's very difficult to give you the correct answer without these details.

You Zenith DVD recorder will record from the DVR - the real question is, can the DVR send video to the Zenith DVD recorder . . . ?

Regards,
BElectric

I have a Magnavox ZV427MG9. I follow all directions in manual for dubbing VHS home movies to DVD but when I try to play the DVD back there's nothing on them. What am I doing wrong?

Depending on the procedure you may be pressing the record button instead of the D.Dubbing or Dubbing button. When recording from VHS to DVD you must first, load the blank DVD and VHS home movies, then play the VHS movies, then PAUSE the VHS movie when you want to START recording... then the only the you have to do is pressing the D.Dubbing button or the Dubbing button. If your VHS tapes starts to play after the Dubbing button is pressed you have been successful in Dubbing.

Dub VHS to DVD

I am not sure why the DVD recorder is stopping after 25 mins of recording. However, once a disk is finalized all the remaining space is unrecordable. That is why your computer is showing the disk as full. The same applies when finalizing a CD. As for the first problem, check to see what record speed you are using. XP is 1 hr, SP 2hr and so on. But stopping after 25 minutes is weird. Even if you use a quick record button, (aka OTR) the recording is usually done in 30 minute increments. Try it again. If it still is only recording for 25 minutes, you may want to contact the manufacture's customer service or tech support. Hope it helps.

RECORDING

On most VCR/DVD Recorder combos there is a quick dub button that you must select the source. Ifyou are recording from a VHS than you need to make sure the button is pressed so that VCR is displayed or lighted or whatever the unit does. If its on ??? Then perhaps its telling you that it is set to record of the DVD which it obviously can't.
