Question about Husqvarna Garden

I have a husqvarna 4623 zero turn and when I would pull up the pto the mower would die. I replaced the fuel filter and now it won't even stay running

Most likely the battery isn't holding enough charge which is why the PTO won't engage.
Likely you have air in the fuel line/fuel filter which lets it run for awhile then it fuel starves.

I hope this will help you...under the side panels on each side of the mower, there are "reverse lockout safety switches", they are supposed to stop the blades when both handles are pulled back. If one or both of the switches are out, the deck will not engage. Also, under the right side panel (when sitting on seat) there should be 3 relay switches, the one closest to the motor controls the PTO., if this is out, the PTO will not engage.

unless this mower is older then i am, it has no points or condenser. It has only a magnito. Sounds more like a plugged up carberator.

You have a fuel delivery problem. Main reasons for this is a dirty or plugged up carburator. If you know what you are doing, clean the carburator. If you let gas set in it for more than a month or so without starting it up, the good ole ethonal in the fuel has gummed up inside the carb. Once you get the carb clean (jets, ports, etc) and it still doesn't run replace the fuel pump. Cheap as heck and easy to install. Both items can be done in less than an hour and cost you about 25 bucks.

Sounds more like a PTO clutch failure, rather than the switch. The clutch is mounted on the engine shaft, between the hydrostatic drive pulley (nearest the chassis) and the mower deck belt pulley (farther from the chassis).
Since it's an expensive part, make sure the problem isn't in the switch or wiring first. You could do that by probing the wires to the PTO clutch with an automotive test light - they are inexpensive and handy. Clip the ground wire of the test light to the chassis, and probe the hot wire to the clutch (it's the one that doesn't connect to ground) when the engine is running and the PTO switch is engaged. Obviously a helper has to be in the seat, and you should be careful doing this. If the light glows brightly, and the clutch doesn't engage, you definitely have a bad clutch. Good luck! Hello,

My name is Dane and I am going to help you solve your problem. I believe that you have clogged jets/passages inside of your carburetor. This can happen when an engine gets little use, allowing the fuel in the system to get old and begin breaking down. If fuel is left in a carburetor for more than a year, it can eventually turn into a jelly like consistency, and clog the fuel system. The other way to block these passages is to allow dirt or other debris to enter the fuel tank. This will be picked up through the fuel line, also clogging the system. The symptoms can be anywhere from a slight miss, to the engine not running at all. Always check your spark plug first before starting any troubleshooting procedures on an ignition system. Clean or replace it if it appears fouled, burnt or otherwise unserviceable.

You will probably need to remove, disassemble, soak, and use compressed air to blow out the jets in your carburetor. Pay close attention to how the carburetor is attached to the engine. Make a drawing if you need to or take some pictures. Remove the Carburetor from the engine. Remove the air filter, linkages, throttle/choke cables and fuel line. Remove the mounting bolts/nuts. You will need to disassemble the carburetor as far as possible and put it in some Carburetor cleaning solution. You can get this at any auto parts store. Do not place rubber parts in the solution. Allow it to soak in cleaner as directed, and then blow out the ports and jets with compressed air immediately after you take it out of the cleaning solution. Be careful not to get any spray back on your skin or in your eyes. Reinstall the Carburetor in the reverse order. Replace any worn or torn gaskets or o-rings as you assemble and reinstall it. Check the air filter and make sure it's clean and not oil soaked. Replace if needed. If you suspect your fuel was contaminated or old you should also drain, and flush your fuel tank. Dispose of your old fuel properly.

Just a TIP: Always mix your fuel with an approved fuel stabilizer. Fuel begins to go bad after a few months and that's why many people have fuel problems in the spring

When you say will not stay engaged you are saying that it comes on then cuts off ? If you turn on the PTO and it engages and the mower is not moving does the PTO stay engaged and for how long (if OK then need to check connections for PTO ) . If it is not engaging at all then we have to look at interlocks / safety switches . Give me some Details

I place all my safety switches on my husqvarna zero turn so what else can cause the motor too die when i take the hand brake off or engage the pto(replaced pto switch)


a bad bad bare wire will cause that chase the wiring looking broken or bare wires try to hold engine rpm im up manually with hand on throttle dont let the govenor pull it down if it runs you have linkage problems take to shop let them adjust and look for bad linkage

Working on a cub cadet zero turn electric pto to blades, pto won't engage when pulling switch, can't find out why can get it to run jumping straight to battery if I put a toggle on this set up is...


go to partstree.com and they should have wiring diagrams for your mower, should be a switch or something if the clutch works when you hook it to a battery (seat switch, pto switch, parking brake switch, even the neutral safety switches) also check your ground hook ups
