Loud whistling noise from back of vacuum

I have a Kenmore Quick Clean vacuum, and when I turn it on there is a loud screeching whistle-type noise that comes from the back of the vacuum, from what I would call an air exchange. There is also a burning smell. The vacuum still picks stuff up but the noise is unbearable. This problem started happening after I emptied out the canister one time.

My vacuum is doing the same thing except it is not picking anything up. Also, there is no burning smell.

We also have a loud whistling sound after a while of vacuuming. After cleaning out the dirt container, usually the sound is not there for a while, then comes back after vacuuming for a while.

On the back side of most kenmore vacuums, there is an air relief diaphragm that, when the motor is sucking but there is no air flow, will pop, causing the sound you heard. check your hose for blockage, check your bag and or filter for blockage, even your attachments/wands can become lodged with debris. Often, after a few, the motor will get hot and the machine will shut down. This is a thermostat on the motor that protects it from overheating. I am quite sure that this will solve your kenmore woes, fine choice in vacuum, kenmore, tried and true. hope to have helped! Have a super, and hopefully sucking(ha ha) Sunday

If you whistling is only happening when pulling back on the machine, the problem is with the connection between the bag housing and the swivel neck. There is a rubber gasket between the two, located on the bottom of the bag housing. Check to see if this seal is in place. If it is there and in good shape, check for excessive wear on either the swivel neck or bag housing. Windsor Sensor Vacuum Seal 5163 86144910 allstar javelin

Shop vac whistles

If you let it continue, you will have a piece of junk. You take the bolts off holding the motor cover on and you lubricate the upper bushing with oil. They are oil impregnated bushings and will soak up a thin type oil best and last longer. Use 10W or 3-in-1 oil or Marvel Mystery oil.

Makes a extremely loud alarm sounding noise while vacuuming and the cord in the back doesn't have good suction at all.

When you hear the whistling noise, means there is a clog either in the hose itself, or in the elbow where it goes in or from where the bottom tube bends and goes up. To clean hose, remove it, stick on top of broom/mop handle and push all the way down to clear out any debris on it.

My Kirby G3 makes a loud, high pitch whistle with the hose

I would say you either have something stuck on the impeller or there is a piece of paper or something stuck inside the hose. its not clogging the hose but when the air passes by it. It is making that noise. If you find nothing you may need a repair. May have a bad bearing in the motor. Actually you can also try inspecting the brush on the head. It removes easily from vacuum and should spin freely and quietly.

Its an inherent problem with any Dynammite model = the fact that the motor is at the front means that it is extremely noisy.
