Question about Sewing Machines
Just got the machine back from the shop where he said I had somehow gotten the bobbin misaligned. Now I can't get the machine to sew forward. It first started only sewing a few stitches zigzag before breaking the needle. Now it only sews in one spot. I don't have a users manual and thought maybe it might be the bottom feeder foot.

SOURCE: bobbin tension
If the looping is happening on the underside, it is your top tension that is to blame, conversely looping on top is bobbin tension.........take a look HERE for detail on cleaning lint buildup.
Top tension should be set around the middle of the range, usually 4 - 6.
I would not advise playing with bobbin tensions, however, you can take the needle plate off to clean the hook race area (where bobbin case sits) ...this is good housekeeping, my wife does this every time she replaces the bobbin....just take it out and clean the bobbin case and the fixed metal hook race with a small brush to remove lint, if there appears to be fine dirty deposits, a cloth or cotton bud (Q tip) moistened (not soaked) with methylated spirit will do the trick.

The problem is that you purchased a clone of the Sailrite Ultrafeed. Most people do not know how much work Sailrite puts into each Ultrafeed Sewing Machine before it is shipped to customers. They hold 17 patents on the Zigzag Ultrafeed and know this machine inside and out. So when each machine goes through the assembly line in Indiana they are then tested by Sailrite in 2 layers of canvas then 8 layers of canvas then 4 layers of vinyl fabric if it does not sew it flawlessly they fix it, Ultrafeeds work right out of the box! So, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to get the clone machine to work. It must be totally rebuilt (a 4 hours process for an experienced technician). Sailrite will not work on any clone machines. So get your money back and buy a Sailrite Ultrafeed! If you are desperate and can not return the machine you can buy a DVD that Sailrite made for the Ultrafeed (each Ultrafeed purchased gets it free) it can be purchase here: http://www.sailrite.com/Ultrafeed-Advanced-Maintenance-DVD . It will help with timing issues, but will not show you how and what to do to rebuild the machine.

SOURCE: FEW STITCHES DROP IN BOBBIN
Dropped stitches troubleshooting:
1>change to a new proper needle (proper needle means quilting needles for free motion, stretch needle for knits, leather needle for leather, microtex needle for micro fabrics.....etc.) of proper size. Most sewers never need a needle smaller then an 80/12 when sewing. Smaller needles bend more easily causing more problems.
2>If a new needle doesn’t fix the problem, remove parts from bobbin case area (as best as easily allowable) and clean out all the lint thoroughly, and oil with 2-3 drops of oil where friction occurs (turn hand wheel and look for rubbing)
3>If still skipping, try a different spool of thread (Yes, thread can caused skipped stitches, not common but I see it).
4>If you haven’t solved it yet, sounds like you could need to make a lower level adjustment like hook timing.
To time the machine, you want the tip of the hook to pass just over the top of the eye of the needle when the needle is in the left most or right most position depending on which side the eye of the needle will be higher
