Question about AMD Phenom X4 9750 Quad Core Processor HD9750XAGHBOX - 2.40GHz, 4MB Cache, 1800MHz FSB

1 Answer

I installed a AMD Phenom(tm) 9950 Quad-Core Processor which runs at a speed of 2.6 ghz but windows xp pro is only reading it at 1.3 ghz. I also have 4 gigs of ram but windows xp is only reading 2.75. The games are also glitchy such as Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2. I'm running it in 32 bit mode. I do realize that it will run in 64 bit. Please help. I'm not sure what to do.

The motherboard is an S-series GA-MA78GM-S2H. It plainly says "supports AMD Phenom x4/Athlon x2 processors. And if it is BIOS what would it be there?

Cool you have been really helpful man!!! I turned my onboard video off in my current issue of BIOS and I believe my system wasn't even reading my NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT installed. Anyway my computer now shows my RAM at 3.25 instead of 2.75 so the onboard was using it, so I don't believe my gameplay is glitchy anymore. I'll probably just wait for the new release of BIOS from Gigabyte. Thanks again for all your help!.

There seems to be some sort of incompatibility issue between your motherboard and the Phenom, or maybe some option is not enabled in the motherboard bios that windows is only sensing half of the GHz, like if the processor is only running 2 cores instead of 4.

About the memory diference, that same problem is because the 64bit difference. Unless you have a 64bit XP you won't see the full 4GB. Windows XP is limited to 3 or 3.5GB of ram it can use, you are showing 2.75 maybe because some video board is integrated in your motherboard and it may be borrowing an extra 0.25GB from the 3GB that are usable under windows XP 32bit OS.

Please comment what motherboard you have, since the cpu alone can't be blamed nor configured.

Thanks! From Gigabyte page, the supported CPU list of your particular motherboard shows that 2.6Ghz and 2.5Ghz Phenoms are N/A (incompatible) with your motherboard, until new BIOS update is released... and they are now actually on the 6th version of the bios,

The good news is that there's a possibility that they will be doing a 7th version in the next months, so you might want to make the effort of holding on a bit to your cpu at 1.3Ghz till then.

Just keep your eye on this next pages and or contact gigabyte support to request they speed up the update.

Otherwise you can look forward to change the CPU or the motherboard, whichever suits you best... but this time it will be good idea to first research online for compatibility details.

You need to search or repost with manufacturer and / or make of hardware.

Example; ACER and model no of pc, or ASUS and model number of mother board.

You may be able to install a quad core processor on your motherboard, will need the model to check.
You can't make new cores out of nothing though.

Can windows 7 run GTA IV.

Hi,
Running GTA 4 on windows 7 should not be a problem. You just have to run the installer using compatibility mode. Right click on the "setup.exe" then choose Properties. Go to Compatibility tab and tick "run this program in compatibility mode for", choose windows xp sp 3. That should allow you to install GTA 4 on windows 7. Bear in mind that you have to install GfW Live and the C++ 2005 files seperately which can be found in the disk as well. More importantly, make sure that your computer meets the system requirements for the game.
Here it is: System Requirements
Minimum System Requirements
OS: Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / XP - Service Pack 3 Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz, AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4Ghz Memory: 1.5GB, 16GB Free Hard Drive Space Video Card: 256MB NVIDIA 7900 / 256MB ATI X1900
Recommended System Requirements
OS: Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / XP - Service Pack 3 Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz, AMD Phenom X3 2.1Ghz Memory: 2 GB (Windows XP) 2.5 GB (Windows Vista) 18 GB Free Hard Drive Space Video Card: 512MB NVIDIA 8600 / 512MB ATI 3870
After installing the game and you're not able to run it, Try running the main executable file of the game in compatibility mode as well.

Hope this helps.

HI ! I bought a new AMD phenom quad-core 9750 2.40ghz processor and Gigabyte motherboard. I m unable to install Windows and the system automatically shuts down every 20 min and sometimes runs for more...

This processor need better cooling system as it is powerful it need more power so I suggest you to upgrade your Power Supply and buy more efficient processor fan cooler. Also you should check if processor is properly installed on motherboard and there should be some special thermal grease between processor and motherboard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_grease) for better thermal conductivity
