Question about HP DeskJet 990cxi InkJet Printer

My HP Printer says that it has installed all the drivers required but when i try to print it tells me the printer cannot communicate with the computer. It suggests I reconnect the cables and restart the computer which i have done with no luck!

Are you using a parallel cable or a USB cable. If you are using a USB Cable then you must go into your settings. Printers and Faxes, double click on the printer,click on printer,check if the is set as default,click on properties,click on ports(3rd option). A list of ports will appear, check which one has your printer name.

Hp psc 2410 photosmart driver win7


HP no longer provides support for drivers for this printer. The newer Windows OS will support the printer natively, but sometimes it requires a little finesse from the user. Here is a link to an HP forum where folks tell how they worked out the communications issue for the print and scanning functions. Hope this helps!

Well you definitely have a pc problem and not one of the printer. the printer just prints what it is sent and as you can print the alignment page that takes care of the printer.

You have reinstalled the driver but did you remove the old one first? I bet not. You should download the hp printer removal tool. Run it and after a restart then you can install the driver. Personally i would turn off the auto update feature as hp updates really mess things up.

I reckon after the reinstall the printer will be fine.

I installed my printer software and it when I try to print it prints jibberish at the top of the page then multiple blank pages agin and again.


Make sure that the drivers are not outdated, corrupt, or incompatible, resulting in disrupting the communication between the printer and the computer.
Always make sure that you are making use of the most recent and latest device drivers, and also that are compatible with your system requirements and specifications, as this can be extremely useful in resolving printer issues.

My computer will print from printer , but not scan!!!


Did you install the full featured software before connecting the printer to the computer? If you get the generic OS driver you often do not get the scanner driver. Go here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=390315 and select your OS.

The next thing to check is try a new USB cable and a direct connection if you are using a USB hub or print server. Scanners require bi-directional communication with the computer so they can fail even when the printer works. Also try a different USB port in case you have a flaky port.

For some reason my printer will not SCAN? Help?


What OS are you using? Do you have the full-software installed or a generic driver? Can you launch the scan from the computer? Is the monitoring program running (required to launch a scan from the unit)? Try a new data cable and changing ports. (Scanners require bi-directional communication so the scanner can fail even if the printer works. Try a direct connection if you are using a print server or USB hub.)

If you have a generic driver, uninstall it and install the full software. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=&cc=us&os=219&product=441240 and select your OS. Generic drivers often only work for the printer of an all-in-one.

Clear pause printing
  1. From the Windows Desktop, select Start , Settings , and Printers .
  2. Right-click the HP LaserJet printer icon that is being used.
  3. Select the Work Offline or Pause Printing option (if enabled) to remove the check.
  4. Print the document again.
Establish parallel connection
  1. Turn off the printer or remove the printer from the network.
  2. Connect the printer to the PC using a parallel cable.
  3. Power on the printer.
  4. Print the document again. NOTE: If the User Intervention Required message reappears, disable or remove any HP LaserJet software utilities loaded on the system (for example, Status Window, HP Toolbox, etc.). Prove printer functionality and troubleshoot communications; try printing again.
Uninstall and reinstall the driver After performing a cold reset on a product installed with USB, a higher DOT4_00x port is created, causing the printer to hang while printing. NOTE: This is required with products installed on a USB port only.
  1. Uninstall the USB printer driver.
  2. Remove the HP folder and AIO folder from the hard drive.
  3. Reinstall the USB printer driver.
CAUSE: This error can occur if when using a network or printing from a laptop. When the print job goes into a pending status, the printer is either in Work Offline or Pause Printing mode. Hope this helps. Please rate my response.

Printer does not want to print


Have you tried installing the correct driver onto your computer? If you have an HP printer specifically, it requires the exact drivers before it can start printing.

Will not print or communicate with computer/vista.


Have you tried re-installing the drivers?Try removing the software you originall installed on the computer,and re-installing them again.Check as well installed printers delete all the additional hps that may be there as well.

'Fatal communication error' - cannot print


My first recommendation is to carry a printer self test. Use the Menu on the front panel to do this ok. If both printers succeed in self test then the problem is reduced. Uninstall the previous drivers for these printers. Connect the printer data cable(USB) to the pc and check for communication. that is, whether or not it is detected by the pc's OS. This should be done one after the other on different ports. If the two printers are attached to same pc, I recommend you use a combination of USB and Parallel printer cables. If communication is successful then detach both cables from the pc. Install the drivers for the USB printer without attaching it to the pc. Then attach when prompted. That way, the printer is guaranteed. For the printer on the parallel port, connect it and install the drivers while attached to the pc. If nothing happens still, you should consider leaving only a printer on the pc. Good luck

Printer wont print after ink cartridge change


Hi pater_g:
Have you tried to reinstall the old cartidge to see if it would give a different problem ( light print ect.) if not try that. If the problem stays and you just can't communicate with the printer try rebooting you computer or go to www.hp.com/support to download a new print driver. I hope this helps you.
