When I updated my Janome. I had to have them send me the files on a usb. Nothing I did with any of my USB sticks and I have several would work.

But it is likely that you need the files unziped before you load them to the USB stick.

Like I said I had issues with mine and of course it was during a long weekend. lol There's something about the way the USB is formatted that stops the computerized machines from seeing the file. I finally got a hold of a lady and she "walked" me though it but still it wouldn't work. So she just sent me a usb stick with the files on it. You may want to call the USA Pfaff help line and see if they can help you./ If you need help finding a manual or with your machine (in USA) please call 1-800-446-2333. 8AM - 4PM CST for support.

SOURCE: What do I do if my computer still will not recognize the machine and software?

Hi - What version of the File Assistant are you trying to run? The original version did not communicate and a subsequent version fixed this. It could also be a com port setting or a few other things.

If you email me your phone number, I'd be happy to call and try to walk you through some things to get it working. Takes too long to write and too many trouble-shooting steps that change from scenario to scenario to write it all here!

I worked for Pfaff for 10 years doing just these kinds of things and would be more than happy to try to help you out.

Look forward to hearing from you,
Kim

SOURCE: I have a Pfaff 2140

Hi there,

Have you tried using a different cable?
It could just be the cable causing the PC and the 2140 not recognize each other.
Hope this helps!

Your drive is probably corrupt. Try to get a copy of the pattern on the PC hard drive. Then format the stick. To do this: PC: insert the stick, go to my computer, find the stick, right click it, and click format. Check "Quick format", unless you have a lot of time and are very patient. Then, put the pattern on the stick. Mac: open utilities, then find drive manager (I don't think that's what it's called, but something close to that.) then highlight the drive, and click format. Now that the stick is formatted, copy the pattern onto the stick, then retry sewing it. DO NOT UNPLUG THE STICK DURING THE FILE COPY, THE DRIVE FORMAT, OR THE SEWING! Hope I helped!

Can I transfer pattern on the laptop to my sewing machine?

First the design has to be a file that is compatible with your machine, then you put it onto a USB stick and then put it into your machine. also design can be no bigger than your largest hoop. You will not hurt your machine, it will not be readable if it is not the right type of file. Janome machine requires a jef file OK
Good Luck

YOUR PC RUNS WINDOWS 7 HOME, STARTER OR VISTA Unfortunately, you'll need to have an original of Windows XPfor this, no way getting around it. Hopefully, you still have a copy of itlying around, or have a family member, neighbor or friend who does. Maybe acheap eBay buy? Doesn't matter if it's XP Pro or Home. This solution is quite abit more complicated, but you can get there. I run Windows 7 Home and I usethis solution to successfully run the embroidery software on my Singer FuturaCE-100; the application should be no different for any other machine requiringXP software and unable to run in either Vista or Windows 7, so take courage andcharge forward! You're going to want to download a free and SAFE softwarecalled VmWare Player. The download requires you to register, but there's nocost, it's updated regularly to keep it safe and has been thoroughly checkedout by a lot of geek experts out there. It's available at http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/desktop_downloads/vmware_player/3_0.Fill in the required information, follow the instructions from the email you'resent, and download the software. Normally, the software will be downloaded tothe "Downloads" folder, unless you tell it to download elsewhere. Before you do anything else, place the Windows XP CD in yourCD drive. Make sure you have the registration number ready. Now go to the"Downloads" folder, double click on the VmWare installation file(Vmware-player-etc, etc) and follow the instructions to install. Once that isinstalled and you've rebooted your PC, double-click the icon on your desktopfor the VmWare Player. It will automatically open up with a Welcome screen.Click on "Create a New Virtual Machine." The next window will automaticallyshow under installer disc "Windows XP (Pro or Home" detected." Just click next.Enter the XP product key and keep entering any required information in theBLANK spots in the following screens. ANY spot filled in LEAVE ALONE. Now leave the PC alone-the process will take about 20minutes. Once it is done, VmWare Playerwill automatically launch the Tools Installer to integrate the virtual XP withyour computer. It may have to download or update the tools, so if you see ayellow banner at the bottom of your window, simply click Update Tools orInstall Tools depending on your situation. The tools will automaticallydownload and install, though you may have to approve a prompt or two. You will be able to click between folders on your Windows7/Vista system and the XP Virtual Machine to copy and paste your designs backand forth. I strongly suggest that whatever AntiVirus software you use on yourWindows 7/Vista you also install on the XP, as it will look for updates on theinternet and will thus be subject to any viruses out there. Make sure you useany firewall, as well, if you use something other than the XP default (you'llknow if you do). Now-close the VmPlayer completely. Don't restart it, closeit. Then reopen it. Do you get a message at the bottom telling you that the USBdevice connections are disabled? We have one more step, then, before installingthe embroidery machine's software. USB DEVICE CONNECTIONS DISABLED OR USB ARBITATION SERVICEFAILS/TERMINATED OR DEVICE ATTACHED TO THE SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTIONING. Arggggh! One more thing? Okay, this is the really technicalpart. The problem is you have an AMD processor, not an Intel, in your machine.Congratulations on a smart purchase. I upgraded to windows 7 and purchased the 2.5 upgrade for my ce-100 futura. I have not loaded any of the software. Which do I load?

Doesn't matter which you install. You'll have problems with Windows 7. Follow the following:

YOUR PC RUNS WINDOWS 7 PRO OR ABOVE If you have Windows 7 Professional or Above, the solution torunning any XP software is fairly easy. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx.Select your Windows 7 system and language, follow ALL the instructions, andMicrosoft will take you through to running XP mode on your Windows 7 system!Hurray! If you still have a problem with the USB cable being recognized, besure you're plugging it into the BACK of your machine, not through a hub or inone of the front ports. The program for the embroidery machine and the USBcable require more power than either of these allow, a technical point Singerdoesn't seem to be aware of. Formating memory

You need to format the usb stick in the machine itself, don't use a high memory one or one that has a partitioned area. 1 gigabyte or lower. You need to use the set icon on the machine and arrow through the pages to find the Format screen. Select the tab for USB device. Then click yes to the prompts, that installs the correct folder system. Now the software end, open easy design and select machine from the top toolbar, set machine type to 11000. Open a design and use the file drop down menu and select Save As, choose JEF in the file type bar, you will see a button below Save , Delete, called options, click on it, you'll find a list of machines, set it for the 11000. It is that selection that saves the design in the correct format. There are 2 jef formats, the old Jef for the previous machines and the enhanced Jef for the 11000. Now rename the design, open the flash memory menu and in the right hand pane you should see your usb flash drive, if it's the only one you have connected all well and good, if not click on each flash drive to find the correct one. You'll know which one it is,because in the window below you will see an Embf folder, open it, you must always open the Embf folder before writing a design, now some have child files inside, emb, if so open that as well , don't create a new folder it wont be read by the machine. Now write the design to the usb flash drive. Do you have a copy of the PCtools software? if so you need to download the update as it's that software that allows 2 way communication between the machine and the computer. Keep an eye on how many designs you insert into the internal memory, it isnt very big. You shouldnt need to reformat the internal memory,
