Question about Washing Machines
The most common cause of this problem is the pressure switch not working. However it is unlikely that the switch itself is at fault, generally the tube from the drum to the switch is either damaged or disconnected. This can be checked by disconnecting the tube from the drum end and sucking and blowing through it, if the tube is ok you should be able to hear the switch clicking on and off. If you cannot hear the clicking then the tube will need replacing....

SOURCE: GE Front Load Washer
Removing the lower front panel (3 screws nearest floor), and opening the round, white water pump filter cap (be ready to catch about 2 gallons of water!) is the best place to start. All you need is a Phillips head screwdriver and a large, flat pan (deep turkey tray works well)!
YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE what I found in my filter housing this morning (see photo below)!
The washer is working fine now, although I may go back and remove the entire water pump so it can be dismantled, thoroughly cleaned, and reinstalled.

SOME OF THESE MACHINES HAVE TWO PRESSURE SWITCHES IN THEM, ONE FOR THE MAIN WASH WATER LEVEL AND ONE FOR THE RINSE WATER LEVEL. CHECK FOR A PLUGGED AIR PRESSURE HOSE FIRST AND THEN CHECK THE PRESSURE SWITCHES.

SOURCE: Agitator Not Working
My Hotpoint VBXR1090B top loading washing machine quit spinning during the rinse cycle and also quit agitating.
The water filled up and drained just fine --no leaks.
Here's how I fixed it in 5-minutes.

i also had the same problem, and it ended up being the coupler. It was not hard to replace, it cost me about 19.00. I didn't follow full recomende instructions. I tipped the washer backwards. Removed the drain pump and the motor itself. Then I removed the old coupling and placed the new one. The washer is working like new...

SOURCE: the washer will fill up
I would check out your lid switch. You can look at the lid and see where the actuator pin would go down to depress the lid switch. See if your switch is broken off. You could also take a flat head screwdriver and manually depress the switch and see if you hear a click from it. It should run if your getting a click. Hope this helps _MJ_
