Battery will not charge

I have a Satellite P775-s7215, my battery says "plugged in, charging", however the percentage never goes up and my battery does not actually charge. I thought it might be my battery so I bought a new one and it is still doing the same thing. I have tried a number of troubleshooting tips, including removing the battery and power cord and holding the power button for 30 sec., uninstalling the ACPI control method battery driver and scanning for hardware changes, none of which have worked for me. The battery does not drain, and will work perfectly fine with the power cord in, so I am at a loss for what might be the problem

I would suspect a dead battery, how old is the battery? I replaced my battery after 4 years. Do you leave you battery in while it's plugged in? Is your laptop used mostly plug in or on battery? Do you unplug the laptop when not in use?

SOURCE: Plugged in, not charging

Laptops has something called hibernations and that works when you have a low battery it will backup your computer to the point that you lost use of the battery and if you get shutout the computer should recover in many occasions this does not work and as result you get a large file at your hard disk that consuming very large section on your hard drive and may take the whole drive and also may effect the battery. Now see if you can turn this feature off and go to your driver (cJ and delete the large file that created at the time you lost use of your computer. Recheck your battery again but you need to check and see if the cable good as in some occasions it looks ok but does not charge … see what will happen then we can go to the next step, remind you that we can not see any information that passed between you and other techs....let me know if that work for you and please do not forget to rate my service so I am able to continue providing same...god bless

SOURCE: Battery fully charged, icon says fully charged but

sounds like you "MIGHT" have a bad battery. But before you go shopping try to reset you battery..

  1. I have had the same problem and emailed Acer. You need to upgrade your BIOS settings and it will be fixed. www.acer.com.au/helpdesk

    This was acers response:

    Dear customer,

Recently it was identified that a small number customers were experiencing a problem with the battery where it would not hold a reasonable amount of charge. We have released an update that should be applied to your computer to resolve this issue. Please complete the processes below and should you have any problems please do not hesitate to contact Acer support on 1300 365 100 or log a service request online at www.acer.com.au/helpdesk.

    Thank you, Acer Support

THey also sent me a word doc with the process and a zip file with the BIOS update. I can not upload the up on these forums but if you go to acer they should respond within 1 hr. I sent my request at 1700hrs on a Sturday afternoon and got a response within 40 mins.
** if you need help with that then, this is how you do it. **** After download Acer Aspire one – battery not charging.
Solution: Update the bios as follows:
    1. Go to www.support.acer.com
    2. Click on Driver & Downloads
    3. Select Product Family “Netbook”
    4. Select Product Line Aspire One
    5. Select your Product Model i.e.: AOA150 (located after MFG.Date:xxxx AOA 150 – xxxx)
    6. Click on the BIOS tab below

  1. Just a little more information on the Acer Aspire One Battery not charging issue:

BIOS revision 3309 (and later) has a fix for battery charging particularly the 6-cell batteries, however if you have the latest BIOS and your battery still isn't charging a good solution is to power down the computer, remove the battery and unplug the AC power cable then push and hold the power button for a whole 2 minutes (nothing will happen, we're trying to completely drain all residual voltage from the mainboard to reset it), then release the power button, install the battery and power up the computer, it should now recognize the battery and begin a normal charge cycle.

I have read other posts that claim to hold the power button in for 1 minute which I tried and it did not work, you must hold it in for the whole 2 minutes. (which is probably what you were advised to do,as you mentioned.I just like to cover all the bases,)
I know it is a lot. But I hope it helps

Lenovo Ideapad Z570: Battery indicator shows the Power is plugged in & charging. But the Battery charge percentage doesn't increase. How to fix this?

The battery might be nearing the end of it's useful life and needs to be replaced. The battery only lasts for so long then it has to be replaced.

Buy a battery on ebay base on your computer's Make and model, not the model of the battery.

I have a toshiba satellite A665-S6088 and today I have a message "plugged in but not charging" and the battery is not charging. What is this?

Hello, try these steps and see if it fixes your problem. First, shutdown your computer. Unplug it and take out the battery. Hold down the power button for thirty seconds. Also unplug the power outlet from the wall. Then plug it back in and put the battery in and turn it back on. See if that fixes your problem. Are you using a genuine Toshiba charger?

Thanks for using FixYa!

Hi, I've recently obtained a Toshiba Satellite

Have you since re-inserted the battery to see if it charges? A battery that is past its ability to hold a charge may show as fully charged, but will discharge usually instantly if put under load and one that has deteriorated to the point of no longer accepting or retaining a charge can cause problems that you have described. The best way is to obtain another battery and test that in the laptop. If that too fails, the issue is likely to lie in the charging circuit. Some laptops, the Packard Bell easynotes were notorious for this.

It is also good practice to remove the battery once charged and running on mains, as this extends the battery life
