Question about Hoover F7425-900 SteamVac V2 Widepath Upright Vacuum

Hoover steamvacs don't use belts. If the brushes are not turning, pull the brush block out, turn the machine on and see if the square hole where the brush block was, is turning. If not then the turbine is bad. Sometimes you can take the turbine apart and clean it out. most times I have found , replace it.

first you must remove the dirty water tank then the nozzle window on top of the machine. (this is the clear piece that the dirty water is sucked through.) then remove all 8 screws from the bottom along with the 1 screw on the main housing. after all this the top housing will be snapped into the base at two spots in the rear of the upper housing. when these are loose the housing should be out. you will find the turbine in the front along with 2 more screws and 2 hoses that also must come off. attach new part and reassemble.

Solution for Hoover SteamVac (F7452-900) brushes not spinning
Uses the turbine model and same solution would be similar. Root cause is simply the main gear attached to turbine becomes stuck. This problem should not happen as often as I see other people also having this problem. Must be a poor design on Hoover’s part. It takes about 30 minutes and a Phillips screw driver and wrench. Pretty easy, just have to remember what screws went where.
Remove brushes, and front suction cover
On the bottom of the machine:
Remove the 4 screws behind brushes which attach the top faceplate
Remove the 2 screws from base in the sunken holes
Remove the two long silver screws from base which connect all the way to turbine assembly
Stand machine upright
Remove the floor select switch handle
Remove 1 screw near the center beside the intake hole
Remove the 2 screws over the rear wheels
Remove faceplate cover, the front will need to be gently pried over the clear plastic part, be careful about the upright disengaging lever under faceplate, move it under the metal wire
Remove the 2 screws in the front of the turbine assembly
Remove the 2 hoses on either side
Disengage the bar on the floor selector switch
Pull out the turbine assembly
Remove the 4 screws and 3 clips to separate the assembly
Remove the filter (which is most likely clean since, cleaning this is the manufactures only solution)
Remove the large white gear and with a wrench remove ball bearing
Remove other large white gear
Note that the metal gear attached to turbine will not move (this was my problem), with a wrench gently grab metal gear and twist free. Spin turbine to make sure it moves freely.
Put everything back together again and you should be good to go.

my husband took it apart today and the impellers were gunked up with black stuff.
he used these pictures that someone else generously posted. ours was slightly different in internal design, but they are helpful regardless.
here is an exploded diagram of the 5903, 04, etc. it will help you see if any parts are missing or broken.
parts list if you need some:
it's working fine now. sucks much better too. what a difference!
guess for the $179 these things avg, they just need annual maintenance. I wouldn't pay someone to do it though.

"I did some research online and the recurrent theme was a bad turbine assembly. Fortunately I was able to fix this myself which took about 2 hours (some reading) and little effort. The problem was with the turbine which is fairly simple and had a bearing that had rusted and froze up. Removing the cover proved to be more difficult than fixing the stuck bearing. This was mostly due to figuring out the correct screws to remove and finally discovering that the back of the cover (over the wheels) is not secured by fasteners but by pegs that "pop" out.
Once I had the brush assembly and Cover removed the turbine came out with the removal of some obvious screws and gently pulling the hoses from the assembly. After carefully opening the assembly housing I discovered the bearing problem and with a little lubrication and some new grease had it working in short order. Putting everything back together was simple as well."
this worked for me. although once i got in i just had to mess around with the gears and loosen them up. getting in was the hard part soo here you go peoples.
take off tanks
unscrew 6 screws fom underneath machine. look carefully
just underneath where the dirty tank goes right by the part that sucks everything up is a screw. unscrew it
pop off the switch for your spin scrub mode. it pops right back on.
make sure your locks for the tank are turned in
then the back just pops off. you might have to give it a good tug. there are no screws although it maight look like there is.
then pull off the grey part.
once inside it is pretty easy.

i took off so many more screws than i needed to to get this figured out so dont do that.
