As the unit is brand new I still have the manual. Going to try the suggestion of changing the set up from cable to air. Will contact you again if it doesn't fix the problem. Thank You

You cannot record premium channels from cable because of Macrovision. The copy write protection on most premium channels. Bummer.....

Is the record/no-record tab on the cassette in place? (back of cassette left corner). If empty hole, you cannot record. Get back to us.

How do I get Freeview on my DVD recorder/player?

It's under the set up settings of page 17 and 18 of the manual.

It's part of the auto programming option - it will scan all channels. Make certain you select digital services and there is an aerial connected.

Is third time a charm. Again several years ago I

Here is the owner's manual for your DVD machine. This is a VHS recorder but not a DVD recorder. To record VHS tapes to DVDs, you will need a DVD recorder.
You will plug the yellow video out connector on the VHS to the yellow 'Video in' connector on the DVD Recorder. Do the same for the red and white audio connections, out on the VHS, IN on the DVD Recorder. Connect your TV to the DVD recorder so you can see the picture you are recording.

Hook ups

use a video splitter for the audio and video, or go out of the DVD player in to the DVR, out of the DVR into the TV (WARNING!!!! Trying to hook a DVD player to any recording device may trigger the copyright protection, causing blue flashes, and distorted pictures)

Vcr recording

See page 10 of the manual re connections
The vcr (or DVD hard drive) you want to tape to has to be plugged in to the sockets shown for "video cassette recorder"

I connect the vcr that I want to tape from as per the "TV/DBS"

I select TV/DBS and hit play on the from vcr.
Then I hit record on the to VCR (or in my case a DVD hard drive)
