My fan motor is not working totaly


PROBLEM; My fan motor is not working totally!
So, i guess that your fan motor is working partially
because it is not working totally.
Please try to be more vague, if you posibably can be.
You will loose 10 points if you actually give any one an idea of what could be wrong with your fan.---ha-ha! sorry,it just seemed too funny to me.
Sounds like:----option #1------- your fan motor is either not running at proscribed speed (fer instance, high is not high enough or low is too low.) This is usually caused by lack of oil on the fan motor bearings.,easy to oil the bearings & dirt cheap too.
but could be caused by an almost burnt out fan motor.In that casethe Motor is not fixable, & needs 2 -B replaced, but dont bother to. It is cheaper to buy another fan at wal marts.
option #2
that portions of the 2 speed or 3 speed selector switch are not totally making contact.
or --option # 3, one of your motor windings could be burnt open.
So,let me start with --#3-- the worst case senarieo
Diagnostic proceedure for Dr. Fixit
You need to supply 120 volts ac in turn to winding lead #1, then to winding lead #2 and then to winding lead #3----
There are 4 wires on a 3 position fan speed switch.
1 wire for low speed,1 wire for medium speed and 1 wire for high speed. This looks like the letter Y with each leg of the Y
[ around the outside of the Y ] being one speed winding. THe neutral return wire would hook up to the center of the Y and this would give you your 3 circuits, depending on which outside leg
that the speed selector switch selects. lo,med or hi--- the neutral return wire at the center of the Y will compleate the circuit, one winding at a time ,depending on speed selector switch setting, for all 3 speeds.
All 3 speed windings need to work for the fan motor to work totally.
If one speed winding is burnt open, the fan motor will only work partially, 2/3rds ,that is. You can still use the fan by cutting off the lead of the bad speed winding and using the other 2 windings.
If 2 wings are bad and dont run, the fan will still work partially with only 1 speed.
If you have no-- or intermittant contact on your fan speed switch,
you will have to order a new replacement switch. This is assume-ing that all 3 speed windings worked properly at their respective speeds , when you tested them earlier , with the speed selector removed from the circuit for testing of the motor windings to see if they each work with the selector switch out of the circuit
If you know that all 3 speed windings run ok , with the selector switch cut out of the circuit, then you know that the speed selector switch is bad.
Firstly,unplug the fan from the electricity so that your hair does not stand up on end, which would surely be a shocking experience.
secondly,
remove the old speed selector switch, noting down on paper, what color wires go where and put the same color wires from the new switch back in the same place that that color wire of the old switch came off of.
(i know this sounds funny, but it really totally works.)
use electrical tape and/ or wire nuts to make electrical connections, if necessary.
With the new switch installed, the 2 or 3 fan motor speed settings will now totally all work.
most electric fans have steel rotor shafts with bronze bearings.
they "call" them oilite bearings,susposedly because the bronze bushing (it is really a bronze bushing) but called a bearing, is oil impregnanted and susposed to be good for the life of the fan.
that is only true if you expect the life of the fan to be ONLY 18 to 24 months which is the average time that the factory oil lasts.
the oil dries up the longer the fan runs and the shaft makes the bronze bushing begin to heat up due to increased friction and eventually wear the round bronze bushinhg egg shaped.
Try giving your bearings a good healthy squirt of sae 30 wieght oil from a zoom spout-- [pull out straw squeeze bottle refillable oiler.]
I recommend oiling both the front and real fan motor bearings once a month.
This is the most common cause of fan failure.
Because I oil my fans bearings once a month,I still have fans that run from 1940,1950,1960 and 1970. The 1940 GE fan lasted 70 years and is still running strong.
Some newer fans have chinese ball bearings , but the ball bearings also die prematurely from lack of needed oil.
Sometimes, you can pry off the bearing race cover to get oil into the bearing.
a good trick here is to use wd40 if you think you cant get sae 30 into the bearing.
wd40 is a n extreemly light wieght oil that penetrates very well
and gets into places where you think it wont get into .
You can totally wet up a fan motor with either
sae 30 or wd 40 or both without worrying about the electric
motor being harmed by the oil.
the oil,sae 30 or wd 40 wont hurt the motor.
On badly rusted and nearly siezed fan motor bushings , or any electric motor as well, I use first wd40 for penetration and then sae 30 for good long duty lubricatin.
You may have to keep squirting ioil in the motor for 1/2 hour and end up with a puddle of oil under the fan motor, but about 40 % of the time ,you can bring back to life what yo thought was a dead motor. Perserverance is required and faith that you can fix the motor. 40 % of the time you get sucess to one degree or another and 60 % of the time ,its kaput for good.
I got all those fans i mentioned before because other people thought the bearing were seized and shot, and put the fans in the garbage pail where I rescued the fans from.
the bearings were almost siezed but far from shot becaue i got oil in to the shafts and bearings and another 12 to 20 years of life from the fans. However,i do oil them monthly in fan season, which is winter time for me, since I use fans to blow the hot air off of my wood stove.

Why won't my compressor stay running


Does it run at a low speed to start but then just quits, or goes back to low speed? Some compressors have a starting winding in the motor to get it running, then as it speeds up it kicks out the starting winding and goes to the normal run winding. I am thinking that the run winding may be bad. Or else you have a bad contact in the pressure switch and the compressor kicks on but the contact arcs and loses connection sometimes. The difference would be if the motors always does the same thing in about the same time it would be the motor problem. But is the compressor runs and then all of a sudden stops, sometimes in a minute, sometimes five minutes, I would look at the pressure switch.

My fan on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee was only running on high speed. Replaced the resistor, and now its and intermittent problem. Sometimes all speeds work, sometimes only the high speed works. What now?


Checking the connector at the resistor with the unit turned on you'll find your problem, replug it in with the unit running on any thing but high and you'll see whats going on. the plug might be burned up and making a poor connection just replugging them many times fixes most of them and you can get a new plug if nessary. if it's burned up it's likly that the blower motor needs to be replaced as it's drawing too much power and it's common as the motors get older that they need to be replaced..

My Buick 2000 is having electrical issues. The heater blower will work sometimes on high and other times when shut off can't get it running again. Now sometimes everything decides to work heater blower low...

2005 Trailblazer EXT. Blower speed control not working...


Problem with blower motor is the blower motor resistor. They are usually located next to the blower motor, a couple of screws and a couple of plugs and your done. Autozone sells them for around $30 each. Wipers you may want to check for relays under the hood in the fuse block. There may be 2 relays 1 for low and 1 for high. I have switched relays from other working accesories and got wipers to work. Sometimes bad connection.

Washer quits working. Let it set for a few hours then it works


you may have overheating motor ..once the motor gets hot it will shut off after cooling down it may restart..overheat may be due to bad motor ,wiring or timer ..sometimes the timer will cause the motor to try to run in both speeds at the same time thus overheating if motor sounds heavy during run suspect this may be reason
