SOURCE: gear box oil leak

Here is a website where a manual for you outboard may be purchased.  Outboard Marine went out of buisness in 2000 and thus no parts of origial manufacture are support is available . Therir are secondary markets .    THe Lower case splits in half and their is a seal around the prop shiftm which is pressed in. The seal between the cases are cut o-rings which are placed and glued into place with gasket seal.
The water pump is located where the case splits a little bit higher. You must open the little port on the side and take out one of the screws to the connecting shift linkage to split the case. After splitting the case the drive shaft and water pickup tube(s) wil come out of the powwer head or the tubs may stick into the power head which is ok. Place the lower skag into a vice and remove the 4 or 5 screws to the water pump housing. Remove and replace impellor and impellor plate if available. If part(pieces) of the rubber impellor is missing flush out the tubes and the power head to remove them.   When reinstalling the lower unit use a flash light to make sure that the tubes return  to the proper place in the power head and the shift lever is resecured. If you need more assistance, just write back. I was an Outboard motor mechanic for five years about the time of your motor.

SOURCE: how tough is it to change water pump impeller on 15hp johnson

There is no special tricks.Unbolt the gearshift linkage that has access through the side of the leg.Usually a small plate.Unbolt the lower g/box.4 bolts I think. The box should then drop.If not,use a rubber hammer and be patient.Put the lower skeg of the g/box in a vice to make things easier.NOW.When you lift the housing of the w/pump take a note of which way the impellar pump lobes are curled.DON'T put the new impellar in the wrong way. It's probably worth putting in a new seal whilst it's apart. You spin the housing or imp. as you put it together.Use a small bit of grease for the initiall dry start-up.Put some very good grease on the top splines on the driveshaft. It goes straight into the crankshaft. If it corrodes, nothing comes apart. As you put the g/box back on,spin the prop so the splines go back in.There is no special alignment.Gearchange linkage and you go fishing.(take the prop off and regrease the splines on the shaft of it)Hope this helps

We replaced the water pump on a 1990 Evinrude 25 hp motor, but it isn't working. Can you help us?

It may look easy in the book but there are a few things that can go out. Such as the key/roll pin that drives the impeller can slip out on assembly. Water tube out of hole or damaged OR pieces of old impeller in it depending on why you needed to replace it. There are more but if you are not a trained tech it may be time to find one.

Water not pumping out

Hello there and welcome to fixya
A clog in the drain line or air gap (if there is one) is the usual reason that a dishwasher won't drain. Often the problem is at the point where the drain line attaches to the garbage disposer or household drain line. If you remove this line, you can clear any debris from the hose or hose connection. Be sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher again. Pump Your dishwasher pump ejects the water. The pump is usually mounted directly to the motor, then attached to the bottom of the dishwasher. You can reach the pump from inside the dishwasher, but first you need to remove the lower rack, the spray arm, and the spray arm support. Look for an impeller--a round plastic fan blade-type of device that spins around. This is the wash impeller, which forces the water through the spray arm. Beneath the wash impeller is the drain impeller, which is similar in size and shape to the wash impeller. The drain impeller pushes the water toward the drain port. These components make up the pump. If any of the pump components are defective, you need to replace them. Drain valve and/or solenoid Many dishwashers use a drain valve with an electric solenoid. When electricity flows to the solenoid, the valve opens and diverts the water to the drain. Sometimes the solenoid, or the diverting lever, sticks and prevents the dishwasher from draining or filling properly. Try to free up the solenoid to lubricate the lever. Otherwise, you may have to replace the solenoid or pump assembly. With these systems, the motor always rotates in one direction. When it's energized, the drain valve diverts the water. Other dishwashers simply reverse the direction of the motor to drain the dishwasher. These units don't have a drain valve. Instead, there's a drain hose connected directly to the pump housing. Belt

No cooling water shooting from the visual indicator port - less than 6 month old 115 short shaft motor purchased new from dealer

if you do not see water shooting out, there are a couple of things to check, open the case and remove the hose and check for debris --- the fitting itself could also be blocked, clear hose and fitting and re-install -- test --
if no water is flowing after that, then there could be a chance that the water pump impeller is bad, ( note: if water impeller is bad the motor will get hot and the over heat light will come on ' red ' ), turn off and replace the impeller.

1 HP StaRite Pump 15" inout Center Discharge 240V wHair Lint Pot: Impellers on pump wont turn. Motor not running...

what happens is the pump gets staved for water and this damages the shaft seal, water slowly over time leaks into the motor and pollutes the grease int the bearing and causes it to fail. it's fairly easy fix, just have the motor rebuilt by your local pool pump motor repair guy for about 75.00 and your back up and running. beats paying 200.00 or more for a new motor.
the sta rite is the top of the line pump, i have had them in my shop over 40 years old ! ask your motor repair guy how to get the most life out of your pump. knowledge is king .. remember to prime the pump after any pump repair !! .. jay longwood florida

I have 30 hp two stroke pull start yamaha outboard motor, the motor starts ok but does not pump water new impeller fitted, is it possible to fit it wrong?

yam water pumps are clever the offste centre causes the pump vanes to flex during rotation and at low RPM you have a displacement type pump, at high RPM water pressure forces the vanes to flex inwards and the pump becomes centrifugal, you can fit the impellar either way up so you cant fit it wrongly make sure your gaskets are ok and that the delivery pipe to the power haed is not leaking (try a hose on it) also make sure the little woodruff key or on some models the pin through the drive shaft which turns the pump is fitted ok, not much else that can be wrong!

Need oil change in water

If its a 2 stroke, there is no oil to change, if its a 4 stroke, you can pump the oil out with a small diameter tube pump.Depending on the motor, you can get it through the dipstick or the fill opening. If you need to change the gear oil, there is no way to change it while in the water. Stop by a marine supply store and get some oil absorbsion pads (diapers) in case you happen to spill any oil into the water
