Here below are possible causes and troubleshooting steps of laptop that can't power on, hope it may help:

Possible causes:
AC adapter failure.
Power jack failure.
Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solutions:
Test the AC adapter with a digital multimeter. It's possible that you have a failed AC adapter. If you don't have a multimeter, test your laptop with another known good AC adapter.

It's possible that power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) is broken. Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one. Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.

If replacing the AC power adapter and jack on the motherboard doesn't help, most likely you have a bad motherboard. Replace the motherboard.

Have you checked PSU? Are you sure your getting power to the unit via the power/charger cord? Do you have a multimeter so you can check voltage at the power cord plug? Follow the plug check for power along the cord, the wall outlet, the transformer, the laptop plug, if so I would suspect the PSU. Let me know.

Seems like you have a bad componet on the PSU. If you know the power is getting to the motherboard/ AC plug can you verify with a multimeter that the power is leaving the PSU (detect DV voltage)?

I repaired a similar problem on a less than a year old Gateway all in one. It had no power at all. I opened the back to gain access to the PSU to check for a loose connection, having found nothing I gave the PSU a "Thump" with a insulated handle Klien screwdriver and pluged the power cord into the wall outlet and it came on, much to my suprise.

You have come to a crossroad, replace motherboard or new laptop. I have replaced many parts on older laptops/PCs by buying used parts from online sources, Ebay and other online websites, but as you know"caveat emptor"

Not thinking it is the bios, as if that were bad, the computer would not work. It is possible that the program (or programs) you are trying to open are not linux compatable. If that is the case, you will have to re-load a compatable operating system.

Usually if the fan and heatsink is not accessable from the bottom of the laptop behind a vent then the fan is accessed by removing the keyboard.

SOURCE: did update bios..then computer died.no display no

This one could be a number of issues. when it comes to updating bios. If the incorrect file was used, it may have reprogrammed and errored out internally. if you have or want to try, one may suggest taking the battery out AND disconnecting the BIOS battery. while i dont know the exact specs on this model you may or may not have to open it up. I dont know the status of your warranty, if your OUT OF WARRANTY then try removing main battery and CMOS battery let laptop sit for about 24 hours for the capacitors to loose charge and then try putting both batteries back in place. and try it, If still nothing you may want to contact asus, about one if you feel comfortable and if its a removeable bios chip then you could order a new chip from ASUS, now if its not removable but board mounted then you may have to send it in for service at cost.

I missed your question, anyways. as it seems there might be the reason of over heating. I would suggest just remove the heatsink apply proper heatsink paste on CPU and replace your heatsink and fan. heat must radiate properly.

It could be an overheating CPU problem.
When the CPU in the computer or laptopoverheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot upagain until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then theCPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes this problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged withdust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use acan of compressed air to do this.

It would be nice if you can get something on the screen, isn't it? Try fixing a AGP VGA and check. Remove HDD cables while checking for MBD errors.
