Keep breaking needles when i put down presser foot to sew iwant to sew straight stich to hem a curtain

If the needle is hitting something, make sure you have the machine set for straight stitch and the needle is in the center position. If it is still hitting and breaking, then the machine is out of adjustment and needs to be repaired.

I have a ELNA 7000 .The motor has burnt out can I purchase a new motor and change it myself?

Here is a link to the service manual for this model.

I would suggest that you check this out firstly before deciding if you want to tackle the repair. The manual is written for techs but it would give you some idea of the procedure to switch it.

If so you could try www.elna.com, www.sewingpartsonline.com, or www.whitesewingcenter.com and see if they can supply the motor.

Good luck.

That's a tough call, parts can be pretty high to fix a machine. Have looked around to price out a new embroidery machine, Janome makes some very nice one in that price range. I'd try ebay there is one which is missing the foot control and hoops for $250.00 just search Brother Pacesetter PC-8200 this may be the ticket you already have the foot control and hoops.

Best of luck

Hi, ..go for the simple first. It could be motor brushes..the next time the machine stops try turning the handwheel and see if it starts to run again. If it does, the motor brushes are worn down. It would probably be less than a 100.00 to repair it.

Good Luck!

Viking 6000 (model 6440)sewing machine - replacement motor

a quick check on your motor. If it gave a lot of smoke and really thick and heavy oily smell all of a sudden, then your capasitor blew. your machine can work without it. Test your machine to see if it still work as normal. Your motor is still good then and only needs replacing fo the capasitor. This is a common problem!!
