thanks for the help. He did tell me that his elderly mom had it and that he didn't have time to charge it. Just took it to my friends house who has the same phone, switched batteries, it is the phone, not the battery, thats what i get for trusting someone.

Honestly, if he said the battery is "dead", maybe he ment that it was fried, what I would recommend is brining it to a Service center or store near by, due to there could be one of the following issues, A. Battery (itself) is friend B. The connection to charge is lose/damaged.
Now HOPEFULLY you didn't pay much for it, most batteries run about $49.99 US.
if its enternally in the phone that is having that issue, then you got ripped off, and hopefully can return the phone, with a full refund, due to sometimes it can run a lot more then it's potentionally worth, Let me know how it goes, Thanks

If the phone was totally dead before it refused to charge initially, then the refusal to charge is due to the fact that there was no residual charge left to bring it to a charge, because the battery completely died.
To fix it, kick start the charging process.
Remove the battery, and using a universal charger (desktop charger) charge the battery for say 10 minutes, before re- inserting the battery to the phone and continuing with the normal charging process.
If this does not work out, then problem is with the charging port. It has to be replaced. This can be done by nearby local phone repairers.
Hope it helps?
Success.

My motorola razor says unable to charge bought new battery cleaned out phone nothing works

in the settings menu, there is a place that has a charge time adjust.Turn it off so the charger will start charging the battery. This is a feature so you can set the phone to charge in minutes,if the bat is too dead, then it would need hrs charging.Thats why it cannot start.

Hi, I have a motorizr Z3 phone whose charger failed. I have run out of warranty and hence I went to a store and the guy gave me another Motorola Charger that is of 6.5 Volts. My original charger was of 5.0...

hi, you need to get the same charger if the output is to high then the phone wont put the charge into the battery as it could cause it to over heat, the best place to buy one from would be the well known online auction site you should get one from their for next to nothing and this will then solve the problem.

You know the battery is not at fault as it charges from your computer via the usb lead however the charger you have brought should still charger the battery but may cause it to over heat so to me it seems like their is a fault with the new charger. Its always best to buy the exact type of charger you had in the first place as this ensures the battery is charged properly.

What phone makers do is keep the same charge connector across most of their range of phone but as phones and technology changes they start using different batteries in their phone so they have to change the charging power to match the phones battery, so the charger you have brought is probably for a newer phone with a higher voltage battery, so you need to get the correct type of charger and this will then solve your problem.

Or if you have a car you could buy a car charger as these charge the phone alot quicker as they run off 12volt so put out more amps to the phone but keeping the volts at the correct type.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Battery wont charge!

Looks like the batteries are DOA (dead on arrival). Happens sometimes. Since you said you just bought this yesterday, take it back to the shop.I'm sure they will be able to replace it for you.
An other thing, make sure there is no plastic around the battery or the contacts..Sometimes that can be a problem too..

Cheers!

Phone dead

I am guessing heat can only come from discharging the battery in a non-intentional way. Short circuit or something internal.

Did you plug it into something besides the connector it came with?
An FM transmitter for the iPod killed mine.
Hard reset, wall charging, USB charge, iTunes restore, replaced the battery ... still dead.
Considering how hot it gets, (could be a fire hazard?) surprised Apple doesn't issue a notice or warning.

Caveat emptor, going back to Motorola.
