Question about Amana NAV5805A Top Load Washer

Amana nav5805aww washing machine won't spin

My Amana NAV5805AWW washing machine doesn't spin -- it agitates instead during the spin cycle. The brake seems to be dragging, as it is difficult to manually spin the drum during the spin cycle. I have installed a new thrust bearing and pulley kit, but that did not help. With the thin 0.032" thrust washer, the pulley barely moves counterclockwise (maybe 1/8") before the shaft rotates -- the cam alignment arrow never gets in between the min and max marks.

I have also confirmed that the motor spins in both directions -- clockwise for wash mode and counterclockwise for spin mode. Nontheless, it still agitates when spinning in either direction ans seems that the cam is not lifting the shaft to rlease the brake when in spin mode.

You will need to replace the thrust bearing kit. Here is the part to order.
It comes with the instructions and is an easy fix.

Hi, Richard: Thanks for your help. I've already installed a new thrust bearing kit but that didn't fix it. I suspect it's gotta be something else, like possibly the brake or transmission (hopefullly not that!).

Leaking washing machine

It is so common that the drain leaks in many ways andis the most problematic fault in a washing machine. In all occasions it isimportant that your observation is most important and so is vital to theidentification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that water hasleaked then as the drain hose pump/valve and fittings are located on theunderside of the machine it is important that you look for possible leaks here.In some cases the drain hose would be clogged at the drain end to outlet of thehouse and so there will be back flushing resulting in overflow to the outside. Also the drain pump/valve can be clogged or the drain hose clamps can be looseon the grip which can all cause the leak to occur. Removing and cleaning thedrain pump/valve, tightening of the hose is also very important. Also water canleak if there are gaps on the front door gaskets and must be checked but thiswill happen only during the cycle and not on the drain cycle end.Tips for leak: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/washing-machines/a/7/1461/do-you-have-a-leaky-washing-machine.html Check for tips on the link below to identify parts andremoval:http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/washing-machines/a/7

How to add fabric softner to the amana washer with locking lid

Check and see if there is a cup in the top of the agitator. Some machines have you put it there, turning back and forth during wash doesn't bother it, but the spin to empty the wash water causes the softener to go out through slots in the top of the cup and be held in the agitator. when it stops the softener drains into the tub, ready for the rinse cycle.

Noisey spin

The noise is from the transmission and is usually pretty expensive. You really are better off getting a new washing machine.

Washing machine will not agitate but it spins.

The brakes are shot,so the tub spins in agitate will also cause it to leak part number R0000014 run about $25.
Look straight up from the bottom pulley you will see the brake assy looks kinda like a clutch plate, look around the outer edge of that you'll see the Pads they have two 3/8 inch bolts in each one,to get the new ones in you'll have to use a screw driver to open the plate.
