Question about Pioneer VSX-816-K/S Receiver
Had this problem before, it was a quick fix, can't remember...
Right now, I am not able to view the System Setup menu on the TV. Tried various different hook ups, video cords, etc.
As this is the very beginning to setting up speakers, speaker levels, etc. it is very frutstrating.
Any help would be much appreciated.

With the receiver off, press ENTER + ADVANCED SURROUND keys continuously for 2 sec. and it will tell you the fault it encountered. Even if it has a short, it will still protect the speakers; however, it is still a good idea to disconnect all speakers before doing this.

Make sure that the sound field/programme you have selected is dolby digital not stereo.(On the amp)
You also need to check on the display that is says DIGITAL not ANOLOUGE, as only a digital input, Optical fibre cable, HDMI, COAX will be a digital signal.
If you are using red and white rca connectors, it is not going to work, as this is an Anolouge signal.

SOURCE: Overheating receiver
I opened my receiver up and found the fan not working. So I took the front of the unit off so that I could access the fan. It looked brand new so I don't think it ever worked. I checked the fan connection with a volt meter and found 12 v only the fan still would not run. I took the red wire coming from the fan and put it to ground. Cut the yellow wire off the fan. and the black wire to the middle of the connector on board. there the fan worked. now I have a working fan. maybe this could be your fix just don't lose the screws and remember how this comes apart. I know the fan works not so sure it fixes problem but at least the fan is working so thats a start. At least it won't overheat. hope this helps
