Question about Yamaha DVD-S657 DVD Player

Open Question

We have a Yamaha DVD S657 (actually we have three).  We were gone for three months and when we returned two out of the three will not open the drawer.  One of these has only been used about 5 times.  They were purchased in 10/06.  I tried the one thing I found on Yamaha's FAQ to press the power button on the remote at the same time pressing the stop button on the unit but that didn't work.  Isn't it weird that they both failed at the same time with the same thing?  Is there something else to be done?  We live kind out out in the "boonies" so it would be great if we can fix this ourselves.  Thanks in advance for any help!

I have a DVD and a HD cable box going through my Yamaha RX-2400. Things worked great for past 6 months but recently started getting flickering picture and eventually picture was gone. TV says it is...

I'd investigate the intervening video-carrying cables.

Consider whether you actually NEED to route video through the receiver in the first place. Is all that extra cable and 2 extra interconnections actually doing any good? Apparently not.

In my rig, I run high-end video only to my TV and high-end audio only to my receiver. No problemos.

Dynex dvd player displays a white screen when fully open. When the dvd play is almost folded shut, the proper Dynex blue screen appears. Is there a fix for this or is it garbage? It's only 3 months old!

If its only three months old, take it back to retailer and they can either return to authorised repair agent for repairs or replace for you, just make sure that go to the retailer with the receipt and warranty information. I hope this helps.

heh... I wouldn't recommend the crowbar. Their is a belt inside the drive underneath the actual reader, it's broken, happens alot. As to actually fixing that issue, you would have to open up the case and take it apart, can be difficult on some drives. I don't know where you could get a replacement belt either. I had to turn my samsung into a manual dvd player (I have to pop off the top, pick up the drive and slide over a pin to open it.) I wouldn't actually recomend that, I just didn't feel like paying to have it fixed. I couldn't find a belt anywhere. which left me with the option of going to a repair center. Probably your only option as well... Unless of course you do like the idea of a frankenstein dvd player. Good Luck
