It sounds like you have the word 'picture' burned into the screen(or the tubes). if this is the case, it's time for a new set.

You have a convergence problem which is common on sets older than 5 years or so. At that age the chips start to fail and need to be replaced.

Here are the some common symtoms...

>>Screen looks 3D
>>One or more colors can't be adjusted when when using the convergence menu.
>>Screen is bowed in but stationary.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and resistors in your TV set. You can get them from several sources on the internet or you can get a complete kit + instuctions for you set from www.TvRepairKits.com

Hope this helps,

O K, the misalignment is usually caused by a failure in the convergence output circuit. If the customer convergence alignment is no help then the outputs ic's are suspect.

I have a 60 inch philips rear projection tv that is only showing picture briefly when you turn it offf

Since the boards and most parts are not available for this model from Philips the only hope is to have a shop take a look, voltages and other checks MAY reveal what is wrong but I would not spend a ton of money on this set, was prone to a lot of problems and middle of the road as far as picture quality.

Pictures not lined up and angled

Sounds like your convergence is just out. First make sure the mirror in back is pulled out completely (if you have that model). Otherwise, there is a convergence feature on the menu that should fix it all.

Check the other posts for convergence problems. This may be what you're experiencing. Have you tried bringing it in with multipoint convergence? It's under Menu -> Picture -> Manual Converge -> Multipoint Red and Multipoint Blue.

Picture problem

Your set is having convergence problems, are the colors messed up in these areas or does it looks normal beside the arc? If the colors are out of line then convergence problems are on the way. Shut down and look at the convergence board for loose solder connections first, Then resistors that needs replacing. Last may have to change Convergence amps.
