Re: matte photo paper. I am trying to print on printworks...
I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy
paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print
button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it
will feed through the printer. The reason for this is in some cases I
have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there
Worth a try, as I have fixed a number of printers this
way, saving costly repairs.
Hope this helps.Bud

I had a similar problem trying to print epson pro canvas. I finally learned the "trick". First I generally cut an appropriately sized pice of canvas from the roll. Then I attach a HEADER. This is dome by cutting a piece of 13" wide photo paper in a three inch length (so you have a piece 13" x 3") . Draw a line at 1.5 inches and place some sort of adhesive (I use a double sided tape gun) on one side of the line. Line up the canvas/paper with the line and make sure it sticks to the header.
Now you should be able to manually feed the header/paper into the printer - once the header passes the correcct point the printer will "grab" it a position it correctly for printing.
There are many solutions posted already - what I do is in photoshop i start to print - even though I cant select the paper I want because the wrong ink is recorded - and I click print preview... then click print. The epson drivers tries to print, THEN detects the NEW ink and sends me back to selecting the paper with the new ink properly sensed. I hope this helps.
The paper types available in the driver are dependent on which type of black ink cartridge is loaded in the printer. If the Photo Black ink is loaded, you should have various glossy paper choices. If the Matte Black ink is loaded, you will have a choice of plain or Matte paper types. Once the cartridge is switched, you will get the corresponding paper choices.
the sensors cant see paper on the perforated part/side. same goes for transparencies, the printer can't see it
Your printer supports the following media types:
Epson Bright White Paper Epson Iron-on Cool Peel Transfer Paper Epson Photo Paper Glossy Epson Photo Quality Self-adhesive Sheets Epson Premium Photo Paper Glossy Epson Premium Photo Paper Semi-gloss Epson Premium Presentation Paper Matte Epson Premium Presentation Paper Matte Double-sided Epson Presentation Paper Matte Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper Glossy
You may have overloaded your paper feeder with heavy card stock and caused a very tiny jam that you have not found yet so that it will act oddly as it is. Look right up inside unit with a torch and down back where the paper goes in.Try printing on plain a4 agian, place a small stack in feeder, reset paper guides too. Also could be your paper sensor, fixable under warranty.
