fan probably is full of dust. blow it out with air. After it runs a while it gets how and shuts itself down til it cools, and then it runs again. you can get canned air at walmart or computer stores.
Do you get the 'push shutter button again' or 'turn off and on again ' message? If so the motor in the SQ unit that charges the shutter and moves the mirror up and down has failed. A very very common problem. The part is on constant back order at Nikon, and good luck getting it anyway as Nikon is going to stop selling parts to anyone in just a few weeks.
This sounds alot like a virus i once had! try a system restore to the point before these problems occured. if that doesnt work run a full virus scan. If that doesnt fix the problem you may have to wipe the hard drive completly.
What circumstances did this occur under? Does the problem change when it is plugged in? Does the charge show it is charging when it is plugged in?
