Sharp microwave makes roaring noise light go on and off when i popped popcorn in bag help

Is it a loud growling noise and it doesn't cook? If so, it's probably a shorted high voltage diode. Secondly, it may be the magnetron. I don't think the popcorn had anything to do with this failure.

Microwave makes a loud roaring sound when start is pressed to cook something. The turntable turns and lights go on, but sound is horendous. We quickly stop it fearing it might be melting down.

Most likely it is the magnatron has gone bad, this or the fan for the magnatron. If your handy you can dissasemble the unit and look for a damaged fan, if none found then the magnatron is most likely bad.

UNIT IS NOT HEATING/COOKING AND IS MAKING A LOUD ROARING TYPE NOISE

If the unit sounds like it's operating normally but the food doesn't come out warm it can be a few things. I have only fixed a few microwaves and so far have found exactly the above symptoms on all. Parts to check are the microswitches on the doors (usually 3 or 4 of), the HV fuse (be very cautious not to touch terminals while still connected). These tend to be very common issues. Fuses are around AU$20 - 30 to replace and try spray the microswitched with electrical compliant cleaner. Best of luck

Rack in microwave

You should not have any metals in the oven when the microwave is on. If you are just doing convection cooking, the metal rack should be in so that what you are cooking is raised up so the hot air can surround what you are cooking.

Vibrating noise when cooking

In order to try to set your mind at ease I will have to explain the Basics on how a Microwave Oven Functions.
When a Microwave Oven is set to COOK ...START. It cooks at 100%. There is no lowering of the heat as with a Range ( Cook Top) Control. So in order to do the other things such as DEFROST, WARM, or anything other than 100% COOK. A COOK ON- COOK OFF system was utilized. To DEFROST, the Microve COOKS at 100% for 30% of the TIME, then IDLES for 70% of the TIME. COOK ON 30% of the TIME, COOK OFF 70% of the TIME = DEFROST This is why you can hear the CYCLE. More power is required during the ON CYCLE, thus the lower vibration. The Vibration occurs when the High Voltage Transformer is turned ON ( COOK ON).
The VIBRATION seems to have got louder with age. This is somewhat normal as there is a vibration from the High Voltage Transformer present every time the Microwave is used. screws and other metal parts seem to get loose with this vibration. There is no solution, unless you can tighten EVERY screw, nut, and bolt in the unit.
Sorry!
