    linksys router is not working

  • chmac Feb 17, 2009

My Linksys WRT54G was working fine until I inadvertantly unplugged it while moving components.

I have good DSL connection without router connected. Have used Linksys setup disk several times, following instructions meticulously, to try and get router going.

All appropriate lights on modem and router are lit and steady, but cannot connect to internet. Start/Control Panel/Internet Connections/Status says that I am connected.

Attempts to connect to router web base page via ethernet, using 119.168.1.1 results in message: "not connected." Diagnose connection Problems says I'm not connected. I have moved cable to all four plugs on router to no avail. With each move, I get light for that plug.

    "not working"?

    like - not power up?

like - no connection to the
    internet?

    - it would be a really good
idea to let us know what it "doesn’t do"

Try diagnose and repaire the connection if that does not work Reset your modem it should go back to default manufacture setup. Then turn modem off and connect any computer or laptop to the modem with ethernet wire turn the modem on go back to your computer that you are connected to modem with wire go to network connections and disable the wireless Network connection and enable local area connection once you see you have connected and have internet working go to start menu you can do this on the start search bar with vista or run with any other windows version type cmd and press enter, it should bring a DOS command menu and then type in ipconfig and enter scroll up and down to where you see default gateway type that ip address to your internet browser it should take you to login screen username should be administrator password admin setup your WEB key make the wireless access available DO NOT FORGET to write the web key down, give a name to the connection and change the default password from admin to something you can remember. save the settings and turn that off keep the laptop on. Then unplug the ethernet cable and switch the network connectiion again enable wireless disable local area also you need to scan the available wireless internet and pick the one you just named use the webkey to access and save when the connection in made.

Now i said laptop because i do not know if you have any other pc using the same access and how far they are from your router. So laptop could be moved closer to it for the setting. When you can not access to internet you have to be wire connected to your router to be able to fix your connection. Because linksys has a firewall will not let you log in wireless to the router hosting and administrator.

If the Modem has an ethernet port (looks like a large phone plug like the ones on the router) connect an ethernet cable from it to the "internet/wan" port on the router. If it doesn't there isn't much you can do.

  1. How do you connect your Linksys router to Belkin router? Do you connect your Linksys router to the Internet/WAN port of the Belkin?
  2. If so, what is the Internet connection type set in your Belkin router? Is it dynamic?
  3. If the Belkin router is set to dynamic IP and if it is obtaining an IP address from your Linksys router(you may check the status page of your Belkin router and look for IP address), then you may need to forward or set that IP address as the DMZ to your Linksys router. Make sure that XBOX is still configured as the DMZ host in your Belkin
Hope this helps!
