Question about Garden

1 Answer

My John Deere 318 shuts down as soon as I move shift lever, and the battery light stays on.

I removed the seat body of the tractor so I could get to the seat safety switch and wiring, I even put a jumper wire across the switch wiri, but still the same results. Help!

percussive maintenance my friend. Try banging on the solenoid and starter with a hammer while in the start position. Also, if you have a voltmeter, you can see where voltage is getting to and that will help you as well.

I think you have a safety switch problem. Check your grassbox switch or the cutting deck switch. Stephen.

John Deere 318. Why won't shifter move from neutral?

the dash is notched were the neutral posisition is , this notch (shift lever needs moved out of notch) is there for two reasons , the one you need to be concerned about is the clutch disconnect , this makes it impossible to shift into any direction without clutch pedal down , sometimes this lever will become bent and not press far enough for release arm of shift lever to allow its movement

love these little tractors , they got all the features of a bigger machine but with the size ease of a compact machine , for a small farm or big home garden there's nothing this machine cant do with the right attachments on it I sure wish JD still made em !

1983 john deere 420 garden tractor thats stalling out when barely moving the hydrostactic lever or trying to engage the front or rear PTO

There are 2 safety switches on that unit as well. Most of them are right below the steering column in the firewall area. Search that to see if that unit has them. I'd be willing to bet one of them is faulty. Most are just a push button type.

I cleaned my carb on onan 318 john deere , now the needle and seat is not shutting off the gas . what is the proper float level adjustment

On most float-type carburetors, the float is usually perpendicular to the edge of the carburetor body when the needle is seated.Turn the carb upside down and adjust the float if necessary, to where the float is parallel to the carburetor bowl mounting surface. There are tangs at the front of the float where it hangs on the pin that can be bent up or down to accomplish this.

John deer 6400 Shuttle shift will not engauge . I can here a relay activat in the fuse panel. If I hold the lever up the tractor will move forward and the same for reverse. But the lever will not stay...

You have the old style reverser which has been replaced by one that beeps instead of kicking out. These are a known problem with Deere and that is why you can't buy them anymore. The fact that you can hold it in yourself indicates that the enable solenoid and the forward and reverse solenoid are ok and all safety switches are working. You need to replace the reversrer.

PTO CONTROLS. How do you engage and disengage PTO.

The tractor is not a 6300 is it.If it' not you need to adjust the cable for the p.t.o. until it will stay down.Don't turn the turnbuckle too much at a time because there is a fine line between the won't engage and the won,t disengage adjustment.

Discharge indicator light stays on.

I would start with a new voltage regulator which is located under the battery tray.
