I have a Maytag dryer, trying to service it, I can't find where the model number is. Front loader electric. I've looked everywhere front back and side.

Open the door, and you should find the details on a label on the flange on the inside of the door opening

My maytag model;HYE2460AYW has bright orange glow what is that from how do i fix it is electric front loader

I'm assuming it's a gas dryer. The glow is the ignitor for the flame. It will glow the whole time the dryer is on. This is normal.

We've got a noisy Maytag gas dryer and it has been suggested it needs brake shoes on the front and rollers on the back of the drum. Is anyone near enough to Oberon to assist us please?

To access the front you remove 2 screws at the base of the front and remove the front panel, newer models you pop the top first. Not all maytags are exactly the same. The front of the drum rides on plastic glides and the rear of the dryer rides on rollers. I made a few maytag dryer home videos HERE

Wont get hot

You might think your heating element number 5 is bad but it could be number 11 or even number 8. Any component in or arounf the heat chamber can be the culprit. This is the famous slopefront dryer (circa 1999). It looks purty. To access the innards you first remove the door. Then you can pop off the front6b47d0c.jpg Then you can remove the shroud and the drum. Give it a good clean and check for broken components. Spec and ohms readings an a bunch of more purty pictures can be found in this printable manual I loaded onto google docs for you:

Dryer will not run but there is power to the unit

Number 11 is my primary suspect. Look for lint in the ductwork. Air restrictions can cause this puppy to melt when temps exceed 300f. To access the innards you remove the door first and then the goalpost front. That exposes the hooks which hold down the top. Once you get them out the way you remove the front shroud and then the drum. Give it a good clean and check all components for continuity.

How do i access the back of a Model #MDE8600AYW - MAYTAG Dryer. i think i need to replace the drum rollers but dont think i can from the front panel.

yes it can be accessed from the front panel as it is located on the back right inside of the dryer.
1) unplug dryer
2) open door remove screws
3) with a flat tip screw driver pry gently up on the top corners it will pop
4) move front panel forward and disconnect door switch
5) sit panel aside
6) lift top lid of dryer 90 degrees it has clip/hinged on back
7) look to the right back of dryer, it looks like a spring in a metal box disconnect and replace.
Hope this helps Tim

My dryer will not heat up. What can I try at home before calling a repair person? It is a glass door dryer that matches the Maytag front-loader washer.

pull the vent hose off and turn the dryer on and see if there is hot air coming out, if not then it is the heating coil

Replacing Timer on Maytag Atlantis Dryer

Call a local appliance shop and ask about it. Maytag is pretty common and available. The timer will be about 75 dollars. It could be more depending on what all you have on it. It is pretty easy to replace once you get to it. Let me know how this turns out.

Dryer is a front loader approx year 2000 maytag. dryer wont turn on. already tried flipping breakers

Check the wiring in the back to see if any wires are burned off. There is also a thermal fuse under the top that may be bad. You can check it and see if it is bad. I bet, however, the problem is in the wiring. The plug that goes into the wall may have a wire that is burned off as well.

Don't know if this is right model

Okay...took me a while to get a good cross reference on this one. Drop the last four characters of your model number and place a "110." in front of the remaining numbers. That way the number reads 110.86921100. The "110" identifies the manufacturer. Your dryer is made by Whirlpool. If you go to and type in the model number I provided, there are a series of drawings on the next page showing an exploded view of the layout of your dyer. Does this look familiar to you? Under the "Cabinet" heading you will find the dryer belt listed as item number 56 (part number 341241). For a diagram of how the belt goes on, go to and you will find a dryer belt diagram link listed under the "Repair Help" section. Locate the Whirlpool diagrams and you will use drawing "K". I apologize if this sounds like absolute madness. If you get confused, please post back and let me know. I hope this answers your questions.
