SOURCE: All of a sudden my

The actual problem in your Garmin gps receiver is of the battery. It's showing that it got charged, but actually its not getting charged completely. The battery in the gps is got dead. In the battery (you can say in any kind of battery) there are live cells that get charged. Slowly -- slowly this cell in the battery dies and at last there are very few alive cells in the battery that gets actually charged. But because most of the cells in the battery are dead the battery cannot get properly charged. ---------So in this case the battery needs to be replaced. Replacing the battery will solve your problem. But in some cases removing the battery and cleaning it with dry cloth (also clean the area with dry cloth where battery is placed) helps. To replace the battery this is the procedure: ----

The Garmin Forerunner 305 Heart Monitor uses a circular lithium battery (similar to the batteries used in garage door openers and automotive keyless entry remotes).Replacing the 305's battery is simple and only takes a few minutes. A replacement battery can be purchased from most electronics retailers. You can also order a replacement battery online. A pack containing several batteries usually costs less than $5. Replacement battery number CR2032-3V:--

You can get the required battery from the link below:---

http://www.amazon.co.uk/CR2032-Battery-pack-Panasonic-Lithium/dp/B000I2JZLU

--------

If the battery fails to charge on your unit, replacing it takes just a few minutes.
1:--Flip the monitor over so the display is facing downward. 2:--Place a coin, such as a dime, into the recessed slot on the circular battery cover. The cover sits on the backside of the monitor. 3:--Turn the coin counterclockwise until the cover stops moving. 4:--Tap the back of the unit against the palm of your hand to dislodge the cover and battery. Follow the instructions on the replacement battery for proper disposal of the old battery. 5:--Insert the new battery with the "+" marking up. Take care not to touch the leads on the battery. Hold it with your fingertips on the side. Lower the battery into the empty compartment. 6:--Replace the battery cover. Insert the coin into the slot and turn clockwise until the cover is secure. If you require user manual of this product. You can click the link below to get the user manual:- http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/984_OwnersManual.pdf

I do not have your specific model. However, others had luck by following these instructions. "Plugging the watch into the charger then holding down the light button for 15-20seconds did the trick." Did you try that?

Garmin forerunner 205 will not stay OFF and none of the buttons respond.

Yes you can restore your data from the TC after a hard reset. You have to go thtrough the setup menu like chose which language etc first.
Well I have exactly the same problem as you and a hard reset did not work either ...
Upgrading / downgrading the firmware also did not work.... the thing keeps on switching itself on regardless....
Do you have found out something more in the mean time?

My Garmin 101 won't turn on, even with new batteries. Any ideas?

You said your watch was a "101", I assume that is a Forerunner 101.

The instruction say "press and hold the power button until the welcome page is displayed".

Perhaps you are not holding on to the power button for long enough?

Incidentally, if you do not have a copy of the instruction manual, you can obtain a copy from their web site "garmin.com". "Select support" and "manuals", fill in all three boxes and select your manual from the list given.

The power wont turn on

The instructions say that you should "press and hold the ON" button (top left).

Perhaps you are not holding it on long enough (I think that a delay is built into the buttons to prevent accidental operation due to catching it on something).

Can i set the f50 to beep after each mile i run?

Yes. When in Train mode, press and hold start/stop to enter the settings mode and press the View button until "Auto" appears to turn on AutoLap, then set the distance to 1.00. your watch will beep at every mile and automatically record each mile split for you. ... its one of my favorite features!

My garmin 305

Press and hold the mode and lap buttons for 10 seconds, then release. Most of the time, that will fix it. Garmin has a sort of sleep mode programmed in for certain situations. If that doesn't work, I have had wonderful success with Garmin tech support.

Garmin Forerunner battery replacement

It's not always the battery, I assumed it was and opend mine up to check it out but the battery was OK.
Problem was the unit wouldn't start without pressing mode + reset followed by the power button.

I lifted the internal watch contact strips to put a better connection between the two halves but that made no difference.
I found that I couldn't delete all the history and the watch had recently turned itself off on a run after giving a low battery warning => the history was corrupted and caused the watch grief.

The only way I found to delete the history was to load a v 2.80 (or earlier) version of the watch s/w (current 2.90 doesn't delete history and there is no tool to do it!)
Fortunately I had a copy of v2.80 but the old version is not now on the Garmin site (that I saw).
Moral of the story, don't run your battery low for two reasons, Li-ion batteries lose capacity if you run them below ~30% and also if the watch "low battery" turns off while recording it can corrupt the history and really upset the watch.

At least I now know how to open the watch and have found plenty of possible small mobile phone batteries that will fit (Samsung have a few possibilities). The ABSOLUTE max size of a replacement battery is 36mm H x 43 mm wide x 5.8 mm deep.
If you go 43 mm wide you have to trim a couple of internal plastic ridges in the case.

Good luck and try starting after pressing mode + reset if it won't fire up then try and delete all the history.
Also DON'T run the battery low if you want it to last, Li-ion work opposite to NiCad and NiMH which should be fully discharged before recharge. You try and keep them above 50%.

There is a hidden recessed button on the right side of the Garmin. Press this button and it should reset the unit and it should turn on immediately.
