Replace water heater if tank wall is leaking.
These things have short warranty period.
Stainless steel will theoretically last longer, but steel tank water heaters have replaceable anode rod to prevent rust-out.
Be sure to recycle the old metal.

When you cut the pipe it has to be cut square or it will leak . Try recutting the end of the pipe and then reinserting it. If this doesn't work then the only thing you can do is replace the fitting.

It may have mineral deposit buildup on the inside. You will need to consult your maintenance manual to see how to flush the unit and clear it of deposits. You can also contact Insinkerator for the information as well. You can use vinegar to clean it just like you would a coffee pot. Take the inlet supply off and using a funnel pour the vinegar in and turn the unit on.

take the front cover off, it is just snaped on, there you will see it, depending on the age of the unit insinkerator will replace it for free, you just have to install it, but for the most part it might be cheaper to change the unit

SOURCE: Hi, my insinkerator hot water
I had the same exact problem. I looked up my purchase information and the unit is under warranty for 3 years (mine was 1 month out of warranty). I called Insinkerator 1 800 558-5700 and they were very willing to ship me a new unit for free. I found them to be very helpful, and willing to work with me. I just got off the phone with them and I can expect my replacement unit in 7-10 days (no charge). So I will install/replace my leaking unit. Good luck!
