Question about Dell Vostro 200 PC Desktop
It won't realize the game CD when I place it inside; I have to go straight to adding programs and attempt to do so. The moment I click add a new program, it begins to run slower and then when it identifies the file, it says to select the installation file or program- But one is already there typed in automatically as a default so I use that.. But then it completely freezes afterwards! The strange thing, is that it works perfectly fine with all my other games, it even notices them and installs without having to go to the Adding or Removing programs. Is the problem the computer, me or the cd? And what can I do to fix this? Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.
You need to completely uninstall the software and try to reinstall. If the clean install does not work than most likely your system doesn't meet the necessary requirements or the software is not compatible with your system.

all you need to do is go to the device manager
uninstall the cd/dvd drive
uninstall the ide secondary as well as primary channel and make sure you unistall the secondary channel first coz normally the primary channel is ur harddrive and if u uninstall the primary first the system will hang you will have to shut the system down forcefully
than restart the system and the system will detect everything again and issue should be resolved
if no than go to the support.dell.com ... click on drivers and downloads....select the option enter ur tag... thats the service tag which is located on the back of the system its a seven digit alpha numeric code located on the white lable with barcodes ...and than select ur os by default the operating system which will be selected would be the one you got with the system... click on cd/dvd ...download the firmware which is applicable ...
you will find the model of the drive in the device manager in the cd/dvd option and after downloading it install it and than restart the system and this should resolved it ...
if that doesnt help it means the lens of the drive are weak u will have to get a new one
so if the system is under warrantty get a replacement from dell

I presume that the hard drives are ATA drives, and if the WD and Maxtor are installed on the same IDE cable then the boot drive, the WD HD needs to have the jumper set to Master or Master with Slave drive, and the Maxtor needs the jumper set to Slave drive.
If the computer on boot up doesn't recognise the boot drive the move the jumper to the CSL setting.
If the Maxtor is on the second IDE cable it does not matter if the jumper to either Master or Slave provided you do not have anything else connected to this cable. If you have a CD or DVD connected to the second IDE cable as well as the Maxtor HD then you need to check the devices on this cable (ie. the jumpers) are not set the same on both devices.
On boot up go into the BIOS and check that the master and slave devices are set to Auto (detect).
You should after booting up now see both hard drives and any CD/DVD.
The data on the Maxtor drive would include your original Windows and programs and data, you would need to remove these redundant files and programs to recover disk space.
If you can see on boot up all the hard drives and CD/DVD (as master and slave drives) but if you do not see the Maxtor drive from My Computer, then you need to delete the partition on the Maxtor drive, create a new partition, and format the drive, in this case you will not recover any of your original data.
To do this, you need to go to the Control Panel, Then Administrative Tools, then Computer Management then Disk Management. Right Click on Disk 1 (it should show a 80 Gb hard drive), delete the partition, then it would show this as an unallocated drive.
Right Click on this drive again and create a primary partition, follow the instructions and format the drive in NTFS file format.

After reading your problem I came across some interesting references about roxio and agent.exe.
Seems agent.exe is used by many programs to update themselves over the internet, and it was giving a lot of people headaches by using 70% or more of their CPU, like yourself.
So, I wanted to send you a few quick thoughts on how to hopefully fix your situation.
First, there were complaints about stuff trying to install itself on and on, and it was because there were command lines in the STARTUP MENU calling upon them to install every time windows starts.
So to try to fix this if its happening in your case........
Go to start>run>and type in msconfig and click ok.
Now click startup and uncheck these items.
'ISUSPM Start Up'
Adobe Reader Speed Launcher
Quick Time Task
Then click apply, then ok and restart your computer. When windows starts, you will see a window saying that changes were made to the configuration utility. When you see it, click on the little white box saying not to show this any more.
And if you really miss not having something you unchecked, you can always go back there and recheck it!
Maybe now you will have the chance to purge all things Roxio from your system.
Best of luck!!

sounds like you have issues with your hard drive. go to start>run.
type this in without the " "
"cmd", hit ok. a black screen pops up. type "cd.." and hit enter. type in "cd.." and hit enter again. type "chkdsk c: /f /r". It will say the drive can not be checked, it is in use. hit "y" to schedule a check at boot up. type"exit" and reboot your computer. let me know if this helps.
