SOURCE: Cannot find a filter

In a pinch a discarded flannel pajama sleeve can be employed as a filter on your shop-vac. grab up an end and twist it together and fasten with a piece of wire. the open part slips over the cage of the vacuum and fastens with a large flat rubber band. I'll try to find a source for a filter for you and will get back to you.

SOURCE: Recently had to clean cyclone

Hi

Canister should not ever get wet. You can use lots of soapy water & pressure washer or hose to clean the vortex unit but remember it will take at least 36 hrs to dry out internally.

Bisell 9500 replaced hepa filter vacuum not turning on

Some (not all) of them have a wire or switch that the filter must press back between the filter and the back of the vacuum. It prevents the vacuum from running unless the filter is installed correctly (they never tell customers about this)

My Dyson blows air out the front of the ball.

Hi Nancy,

Thank you for your inquiry. After passing through the washable HEPA filter, air exits the DC25 Animal through the vented filter cover located on the ball of your machine. This is a normal function of your vacuum.

However, if you have additional questions or concerns about your DC25, please contact us at 1-866-693-9766 (US) or 0800 298 0298 (UK).

Best wishes,

Jessica

Cleaning the filters

Hello,

There are 3 different filters on this particular model. Two of them are foam, and as washable, the 3rd is a HEPA filter that's located on the back and is not washable, but needs to be replaced once a year.

The most important filter, and the one that most people are not even aware of, is located directly underneath of the dirt cup. Directly under the dirt cup you'll see a black tray that says "pull". Pull this tray out, and you'll find a square shaped washable filter. Simply remove this filter and rinse it under water until it's clean. Make sure to let the filter completely air dry before reinstalling it in the vacuum and using the vacuum again.

The second foam filter is located directly above the dirt cup. Remove the dirt cup, and in the clear plastic housing that's directly above the dirt cup you'll find a circular colored plastic piece. Reach your hand up there, and unscrew this plastic part while pulling downward. You'll find a circular shaped filter that wraps around this plastic piece. This filter may also be washed the same way as the square shaped one, again just make sure that the filter is completely dry before using the vacuum again.

The HEPA filter is actually on the back of the vacuum in a grate that pull down to open it and remove it. This filter needs to be replaced only, and can not get wet.

The foam filters can be washed several times, but will sooner or later need to be replaced, as they will start to deteriorate after a few washings.

If you need to purchase these filters, here are direct links to all of the filters on your vacuum cleaner.

My bissel bagless vacume is not sucking

Hello,

This is a fairly common problem with the Bissell bagless vacuums unfortunately. Bissell uses a series of filters throughout their machines, and if you haven't washed this filters recently, this may be the cause of the lack of suction.

If you'd like, please just reply to this repair with the exact model of your Bissell. This model number can be found on the bottom or the back of your vacuum cleaner on a sticker that also contains the serial number. This information will help me identify where exactly your filters are located.

Most Bissell's have a hidden filter inside of a trap door that most people aren't even aware of. First check to see if your model has a filter located directly under the bagless dirt cup. It's usually in a black colored tray that says "PULL". Slide this tray out, and check the filter that's in there. If it's all dirty and caked on with dirt, then this is probably your problem. This foam filter can actually be washed, just rinse it under the sink, but make sure it's completely 100% air dried before putting back in your vacuum.

If your model doesn't have a filter here, then you may also have a filter above the dirt cup. When you remove the dirt cup, look directly above the dirt cup in the clear plastic part that stays on the vacuum. There should be a circular shaped plastic part in the top part, Simply turn the plastic part to left while pulling downwards, and this filter should pull out. This filter is also washable, just make sure that it's dry before using the vacuum again.

Again, if you'd like to give me your exact model number, I'd be more then happy to better diagnosis the vacuum cleaners suction loss for you. Please just use the clarification request here on Fixya.

If this was helpful to you, please be so kind and rate my answer as helpful by clicking on the thumbs up icons in the top right hand corner of the repair. Thank you very much, this is greatly appreciated. If this wasn't helpful, rather then rating it unhelpful, please let me know more detailed information, and I'd be more then happy to walk you through the repair.

Filters have been clogged with wet cat litter and now the vac will turn on but shuts off and wont cont to vaccume. can we clean/rinse the filter out. filter light has come on and then turns off once the...

Using a vacuum cleaner for wet cat litter??? Not a good idea at the best of times! The machine's cutting out because it's overheating. You don't tell us the make or model of your machine - some filters are washable, many are not. Your user manual should tell you. As a general rule, cloth- or sponge-type filters are probably washable, paper ones are not. If you do wash the filter, give it at least 24 hours in a warm place to dry thoroughly before re-using.

Filter doesn't look clean after rinsing

It could well be that your Dyson is blocked elsewhere. Check the pipes, especially the feeder channels and the air way inspection channels on the Dyson as well as the main dirt channel after the rolling brush bar. Also brush clean the shrouds on the inner cyclones as these get notoriously clogged.
If the filter is washable it wont come up white like new unless you try a stain detergent like a pre stain remover. It would have to be heavily diluted as water is really the only way of cleaning a Dyson filter, but it also has to be of the washable type; Dyson produce a few filters, but some are not washable. EBay usually have good cheap replacements available but I'd check the first points first of all before filter replacement.

Washable filter is getting clogged with dog hair

I have a Dyson Animal Absolute and a rescue white american eskimo dog and two tabby cats.

We found white hair on top of the washable filter and called Dyson to fix it. There shouldn't be anything on that filter.

The Dyson rep said:

Check the black rubber seal that surrounds the "cyclone" holes as it may need to be pushed down because it isn't sealing properly.

To do this remove the cannister and dump out the stuff in there. Do it outside so the fluff doesn't circulate in the house.

Turn the entire filter part upside down so you can see inside.

Check the seal that is at the bottom of the entire filter part and look at the two half moon "nozzles" that **** up the dirt.. now make sure the black rubber band that surrounds those two nozzles is either up or down... do this then vacuum a bit.. check the washable filter to see if it is clean...make sure the rubber seal actually is sealing.. it should just set into place once you have it done properly.

Now if this doesn't fix it, call Dyson, the number is printed on the front of the machine.. and give them your serial number which is located behind the removable cannister. The machine has a 5 year warranty.
