Question about Computers & Internet

No more sound

It's six days since the sound, in less than a minute, gradually faded away and disappeared from the machine. (OS: XP Professional SP 2, Browser IE 8, Media player VLC 2.0.0.)

I don't think this "no more sound"-problem to be related to a software issue. What if it's a hardware problem?

First, I'd check to see if the headphone jack still worked. If not, then the sound chip on the motherboard is probably shot. Next, I'd get a 'live' linux cd, like ubuntu (http://www.ubunto.com). This will run the linux os right from the cd without installing anything. If you still don't get any sound, it's almost certainly a hardware issue. Replacing chips on a multi layer circuit board is no easy matter. Your best bet if the sound hardware is dead is to get a USB sound card.

I've got a slight ticking noise, but not at start-up. After the engine warms up, it will start out very faint and gradually get louder. After about 2 - 3 minutes, it goes away. This is a High M

This sounds like a tappet (cam follower/rocker arm) is at max clearance. This can be the sign of cam lobe wear or follower wear on its internal clearances or valve tip wear.

I have the same problem. Tivoli just had these made cheaply in China and sell them for a bunch here. POS. Their "outstanding" warranty is just a piece of paper.....100 bucks for fix a 150 dollar radio, don't think so.

My laptop suddenly got no sound of whatever..what sound app is needed for a e machines by ACER LAPTOP WITH WINDOWS XP OS

Click this link and select your model to download the audio driver. It's worth to install the chipset drivers before installing the audio driver as I do not see why the sound disappeared suddenly. If this hasn't help there could have be a connection has come off between the computer and the speaker.

Good luck!

I sometimes have upperend noise while idling, a tick tick tick noise, then gradually fades to a less noticeable sound. The bike has, 3,800 miles on it and had sat for a few years prior to my buying....

Have the valves adjusted. A ticking sound on the top end is almost always the valves tapping. I slight ticking sound is normal but if it's been sitting for a while it's good to have them measured anyway.

Marshall DSL 100 - volume fades away and gradually comes back on

IF this is a vacuum tube unit, these symptoms are that of a tube that the heater is intermittent, that is it cools off due to a break and then liights again.

Open the back and observe the heaters in the tubes. DO NOT be fooled by some that have TWO heaters in them. (use a mirror if necessary) A single one that comes and goes can cause the problem and the voiration can make it come and go. This behavior in a tube is NOT somthing readily spotted in a tube checker. The delay in fading and coming back would be the delay in warm up following a heater going out and cooling.

This sounds like a problem with the protection circuit, and/or the speaker relays. More specifically, a capacitor within those circuits that is not behaving properly. I strongly suggest having it looked at ASAP.

sounds like the hard ware has failed or died

try removing the sound device in device manager and when you re boot it will re install the driver

but as i said if it was gradually fading away then it will be the actual hard ware has given up
