You did not state what model Maytag dryer your using, so I can only help you so much.
Your problem is the seals front/rear is worn out causing your clothes to catch in the dryer causing tears and holes in your clothes.

Dryer twisting and catching clothes

there is a front felt piece that if it is warren out will catch your cloths and rip them. you need to replace that front felt.

this part might be the cause of the felt getting damaged.

Frigidaire electric dryer catches clothes at the edge of the drum

If the clothes catch on the drum edge the felt seal is worn out , and the squeak could be the bearing the drum rest on or the belt tentioner , it may need oiled , you can buy the felt seal replacement kits online and they are not hard to install.

My clothes are catching between the drum and casing(?), the drum seems to be loose. My dryer is a GE profile/prodigy

suspect front tub support/bearing ring worn remove top by removing screws under front edge of top lift top 1 screw each side of front on inside front ring attaches to front panel look for worn plastic ring and pads
