How do you open it up to remove a paper jam?

Hi, Most printers will work for many years with no problems, but occasionally a piece of paper jams in the printer. Here is a simple way to fix a paper jam and some tips on what to do if the problem persists.

Pull the paper out if it is visible. If not, then open the top of the printer so that the jammed piece of paper is visible.

Grasp the paper and pull gently but firmly. If the paper continues to jam in the printer, inspect the rollers to ensure that they are grabbing the paper and pulling it along the paper path properly.

Check the paper path for any obstructions, and clear if found. Also, inspect the other parts that the paper travels through, to ensure that they are not dirty or gummy. If any dirt or other debris is found, clean the parts and try again.

Close the top of the printer.

Place the printer back online. Try the print job again.

Also The flashing error code that indicates a jammed printer is the digital-age equivalent of a flat tire. Sooner or later it happens to everyone, so you'd better know how to get things moving again if you want to finish your print job.

Turn the printer off and on to see if it can automatically clear some or all of the jam. Many printers provide an error-code listing on the front panel display for the area where the jam occurred. If your printer shows an error code, be sure and check the printer manual to see if that identifies the area of the printer where the jam occurred.

Turn off the printer.

Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.

Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.

If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it in a bag or away from light to avoid damaging it.

If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly (see A) clear-printer-paper-1.6-120x120.jpg. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.

If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper (see B) clear-printer-paper-1.7-120x120.jpg. Don't force anything, though.

Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.

If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.

Tips & Warnings

Referring to the owner's manual that came with the printer is always a wise precaution before attempting any type of fix to a problem.

All printers will wear out after a certain period of time. If the printer is old or has been used quite heavily, it is possible that a mechanical breakdown has occurred and parts must be replaced before it will work properly and print as it should. Have the printer serviced by an appropriate facility.

If you get toner or ink on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry cloth and then launder the clothing in cold water.

Watch out for loose toner or ink on jammed paper, and do your best to avoid spilling it on yourself or the printer. If a little bit of loose toner or ink gets in the printer, though, it should clear after a few sheets are printed.

I think that will do,if only if it the correct problem.

Thanks for using fixya....

As soon as I started using recycled ink cartridges, I started getting a paper jam error on my printer. The control panel message instructs me to remove the back panel and clear paper jam. I've done this several times but there is no paper to clear and the message keeps coming back. I've tried turning of the printer and unplugging it to clear the memory, but that doesn't help. Could it be that the chip on the ink cartridge is messing with the printer's operating system?

Paper jam error message..no jam

Hello There this may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.
