Question about Onkyo SKW-210 Subwoofer

Open Question

Blowing fuse onkyo skw-150 subwoofer keeps blowing fuse but if I unhook the built in thermal fuse(I think thats what its called-thats what it says on the outside of it-its very heavy and has lots of copper wires wound around it like a coil)from the circuit board it will not blow fuse. Therefore I believe that its the problem. Wondering if I can just by a new thermal fuse?

Onkyo skw 591 subwoofer...blue light is on and no sound? any thoughts?

Hello, To test the subwoofer when the blue light is on if you apply your thumb to the end of the subwoofer cable (the end that you would plug into the receiver) there should be feedback from the sub. If there is no feedback then the sub is not working correctly. Thanks, FJD

What is the output voltage of the mains transformer for the Onkyo SKW 770 Subwoofer amplifier? I need the specs so I can have a custom replacement toroidal transformer made. Thank you kindly in...

It would seem that a call or email to the mfr, should be your first move.
Are you certain that the transformer is at fault?
These normally outlive most everything else-

Electrical short in the subwoofer

You're quite right when a fuse blows there's a short. The short will be in either the power supply section, or the main amp. You will be looking for a semi-conductor of some sort. A multi meter on the ohm setting will track it down quick if it's a transistor. As the meter scale will be just like you have touched the probes together. Follow the circuit back from the fuse. Check any part that you suspect. If the sub uses an IC power amp, it could be a strong suspect!

The amp output stage or the power supply is shorted. Service shop type repair.

My onkyo subwoofer does not turn on the green ligth is not on, what could it be? is a swk-200

My Onkyo S/W did the same thing untill I unplugged it from the surge protector that all the other A/V devices are plugged into. I plugged the sub into it's very own wall recepticle with it's very own new surge protector. Maybe cleaner power is the answer.

Subwoofer issues

Hi,

The fuse blows when the current that passes through it are beyond its rating. This could be brought about by excessive consumption of the load, in this case the amplifier powering the sub-woofer.

Repairs would involve component level and require that you be familiar with electronic components and circuitry, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. Often it is just the finals that needs to be replaced. Of course we cannot discount the possibility of other components or section such as the power supply.

The smoke indicates something heating up such as a resistor or diode or a capacitor.

Should you be uncomfortable opening the unit and doing a DIY (do-it-yourself), then perhaps you need to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Should the downtime and cost of repair be no longer economically reasonable, purchase of a new unit might save you further trouble.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
