Question about Whirlpool LGR7646E Dryer

1 Answer

Whirlpool dryer won't heat

Model lg5796xpw0 - 14 + yrs old; Noticed last week that the timer didn't shut off and dryer ran for over 2 hours during one cycle. Now, igniter glows but there is no flame on any cycle. Dryer otherwise runs.

Thermostat and fuse seem to be okay; checked circuit breakers were not tripped. Could this be caused by a faulty timer or is it an igniter burner assembly problem.

Ended up replacing the solenoids and the burner ignited, flame stayed on. Problem appears to be solved. Thanks for your help and posting.

Dryer timer won't shut off at end of cycle. Dryer runs, but no heat. It is a Whirlpool model number LGR4634JQ2.

Since you say that the dryer runs but have no heat, plus the timer won't shut off the odds are the timer is bad. The timer would tell the burner when to be on and when to shut down.

Gas dryer heating element won't come on.

There is a controller problem to turn on the gas manifold to produce heat. Since you have it only one week old, let's take the advantage of the warranty to have a new controller unit replaced.

The Ignitor is fine? So, it heats on some settings and not others?

The OHM Meter test for continuity.
Some parts give a reading of a certain amount of OHM's but, most the time all you need to know is if you get any reading on the meter at all. This shows there is no break inside the part. You can check the ignitor this way also the solenoids on the gas valve.

If the ignitor glows red then shuts off and does not ignite the gas, this could be the sensor or the solenoids. The sensor located close to the ignitor, will detect the glow from the ignitor and send power to the solenoids on the gas valve.
