Question about Computers & Internet

Spam|Viruses|Malware from fixya

I created this unique address (fixya.123@mydomain.com) to ask questions on this web site. No one else has it,no one else knows it, and it's only been used here. I just received another virus/spam to that address. Fixya either got hacked or they sold my address. I hope this doesn't get deleted like my last complaint about this did.

It could have just been coincidence. Spambots often create lists of randomly generated email addresses and that one is generic enough to be top on the list. Beyond that, you just posted it in clear text. There are other bots that scrape pages for email addresses and add them to their database.

Delete all Spam Files

You will have to check off one-by-one the spam emails and delete. Here is a tip for avoiding spam...
How to avoid spam
1. Use email filtering software at your email gateway to block spam as well as email-borne spyware, viruses and worms.
2. Never make a purchase from an unsolicited email. By making a purchase, you are funding future spam.
3. If you don't know the sender of an unsolicited email, delete it. Spam can contain dangerous malware that can compromise your computer.
4. Don't use the preview mode in your email viewer. Many spammers can track when a message is viewed, even if you don't click on the email. If you view a spam email, it confirms your address to the spammers.
5. Don't overexpose your email address. Posting to mailing lists that are archived online, publishing your address publicly on social networks, and using an easily guessable address based on your name and company makes you an easy mark for spammers.
6. Keep your work and personal email separate. And use one or two secondary email addresses for when you fill out web registration forms or surveys on sites from which you don't want further information.

While they are in blue fixya, just like PDF files, has killed the link capability, probably for fear of viruses and other forms of malware being in linked sites. So go to the address at the top of this page and click on the links that are appropriate to your individual problems.

I should point out that using the telephone numbers, which I have not included, as well as the one above, is an exercise in futility. In addition to that they have killed their once useful chat line. Some people have commented that you can get mediocre service faster if you contact them from their Facebook account. However it was rated as one and a half stars. Basically Yahoo sucks.

Yahoo will never again be what it was before they hired their new CEO who is interested in dealing with large businesses because that's where the money is. So we peasants lose.

Why is this fixya web site more like a game then anything else?

At FixYa we do our best to maintain a clean and pleasant atmosphere on the site and to make sure that all information provided on the site is unique and genuine. However, there may be some cases where users take advantage of the free forum we provide by posting spam, self-promotion information or advertisement.

These cases are not many and most importantly, are easy to notice. If you come across such posts that include advertisements or self-promotion, we will appreciate it if you could report the thread as abusive by clicking the little flag on the right lower side of the question.

Please rest assured that we are doing our best to keep the site clean and making sure FixYa continues to be a household name for solving problems.

I have not received emails sent to me in the last three days what steps should i take?

Glad to HELP YOU!

I'd suggest you to do TWO things:
1. to check the BULK/SPAM folder too; maybe the messages got there. It happens sometimes even the senders are people you are communicating with many times;
2. verify if the last few days the server(s) where your e-mail account was created on were not DOWN. It happens too many times - even with well-known web sites. This case you even may write a message to the site administrator (usually the address is something like "admin@web-site.com/net/org/etc.") and ask him if the last few days the servers had had some technical problems.

GOOD LUCK!

I keep getting a virus alert and when I ask to remove viruses it brings me to a page to buy virus protection. I already have virus protection on Windows. What can I do to resolve this annoying problem...

You are infected with a Trojan or Malware. The pop-ups are bogus.. You are only infected with the product they are trying to sell you. What is the name of the Virus Protection they are trying to sell you? First thing to do is restart your computer in Safe Mode and run all your security scans. See it they find the culprit. If not post back,

Mail forwarding

Through mail forwarding (as the name suggests) you can forward a paticular mail to many adresses automatically. G-Mail (Google Mail) http://www.gmail.com provides this utility free. And how to do it, ITS SIMPLE as 123 Here's how to forward messages automatically:
  1. Sign in to Gmail.
  2. Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page, and open the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
  3. Enter the email address to which you'd like your messages forwarded.
  4. Select the action you'd like your messages to take from the drop-down menu. You can choose to keep Gmail's copy of the message in your inbox, or you can send it automatically to All Mail or Trash.
  5. Click Save Changes.

You also can set up filters to forward messages that meet specific criteria. You can create 20 filters that forward to other addresses. You can maximize your filtered forwarding by combining filters that send to the same address.
