> these files play fine on Windows Media Player

Then, continue to use Windows Media Player.

Or, tell us what alternative program that you use that gives "sound-and-no-picture" or "picture-and-no-sound".
What version of that program?
Windows XP? Vista? 7?
Any more "possibly-relevant" details ?

I work in insurance and need the date to show on the pictures I take. I have tried everything. I have a Nikon D40. Can you tell me how to get the date to show on the pictures.

The date (and a lot more information) is saved with every picture in what's called the EXIF data. Whatever program you're using to print should have an option to print the date either on the picture or in the margin (or even on the back). Refer to the documentation for the program.

If you want to see the date on the screen, most picture viewers also can show this data. For example, in Windows Explorer, simply hover the mouse over the picture.

If you need more information, please specify the program(s) you're using and we'll try to help you.

32 INCH ZENITH PICTURE IN PICTURE ABOUT 15 YEARS OLD.PICTURE DISAPPEARED AND ONLY HAVE A THIN WHITE LINE RUNNING ACROSS THE SCREEN.THE SOUND STILL WORKS FINE. IS IT WORTHWHILE GETTING IT REPAIRED ??

When CRT TV's show only a white/bright line horizonatlly It is a failure of the flyback Transformer. Not all that costly to repair. Your old TV will probably still be working when all the latest plasmas and rear projections have been laid to rest. Fancy junk TV's dont get any better programs than those old reliable ones
