Question about Pitco Frialator 40CNG Deep Fryer

Open Question

I have a used Pitco Fryer that is so old I can not make out the number, it appears to be a PG14-s but that does not seem to match any that I have been able to find. This was from an abandoned closed restaurant, and has sat dormant for several years, even better, they left it full of oil...nasty. Ut has been cleaned, but I am unable to get the pilot to light. Am I crazy to think there is even a possibility of this thing working?

Ok, so i have figured out why the model number is crazy, it appears to be a FrankenFryer, and the door is from a pitco pasta cooker, I beleive the unit is an economy fryer, model 45. I have filled it with water, and it is not leaking anywhere. I have purged the line after hooking it up (held pilot for over a minute). Still, I get nothing.

SOURCE: Pitco Frialator Model 14S

Excellent reason to use Dormont flex lines.
If water gets to your combination valve (the thing with the on-off knob,) it should be replaced. Can you hear gas hissing? If there is gas at the orifice, it should light. check to see that all of the air is purged. Can you smell gas?

SOURCE: Pitco 35C+ fryer. Pilot lights fine; main burner

Its a simple design. If the thermophile does the work of powering the fryer control. Do you have a good pilot flame? If the pilot flame ain't good enough then the millivolts won't be enough to operate the solenoid on the gas valve. Most folks replace both the pilot and thermophile on these fryers since the grease makes such a mess of everything. If the pilot generator is fine then the gas valve is next.

My pitco fryer SFSG18 will not light it has spark but does not seem to be getting gas when trying to light

Have you tried inspecting/replacing the thermocouple? This is the thing you heat when initially lighting the pilot.

You may also have a stuck pressure valve, but that is unusual.

How to check gas pressue on pitco frialator

To check manifold pressure, there is a pressure tap on the manifold on which the burners are mounted. Remove the tap, hook up your manometer and turn the fryer on. Be sure you have no gas leaks once you reinstall the plug. The gas pressure should match what is on the data plate.

13 year old pitco frialator fryer pilot wont stay on. changed gas valve and thermopile.... pilot light wont stay lite

Hi there.
Check and tighten all wiring connections.
Check the hi limit for continuity across the terminals using an ohm meter, if it has no continuity, you have to replace the hi limit.

The fryer is a pitco 35cs can u tell me y it heats up to 550 and shuts the pilot down

It shuts down because it is tripping the high limit. Apply a soap solution to the lines going from the gas valve to the thermostat. If bubbles appear there is a leak and needs to be corrected. If no bubbles appear then the thermostat is probably your problem.
