Stuart - this sounds like an air problem - you should perform the following test. With the air nailer close to the compressor you must monitor the airpressure after the gun fires. it sounds like the air is not gettting through diapram fast enough or there is a blockage in line. Blockage in line is not suspected for the following reason . It sounds like the air hose is holding enough air to fire 2-4 nails and then you must wait for the line to fill up again and then it fires ok. The pressure regulator out to the line controls this and they do fail. try this test and report back to me - I know I can solve this for you as I have extensive background in compressor and the like.

SOURCE: paslode nail gun not firing

Hi,
Yes you need to oil driver blade piston.
You need to check for spark. With no nail or gas in it. Take of main cylinder(4bolts on top, 2 bolts on nose. And then put in battery. And then push upper switch(behind roller at top) and the fan will come on. And then pull the trigger. You should have spark.
Thanks,
Jeff

Several things to check for piston not returning to top of cylinder. Most common problem is bent/ broken driver. Worn oring on piston is second most common. Piston should move easily in cylinder but hold in place. Point nose of gun up then down again, if the piston moves within cylinder, replace the oring. Lower bumper and washer with slot under the bumper must be in good condition. If the bumper is cracked or missing pieces and or if the washer fits too loose around the driver blade, the piston may not return to top. Finally, pull out the cylinder and make sure that the check-oring is in place around a series of holes on the middle to lower part of the cylinder (small groove cut into cylinder with several small holes). Good luck with your repair

My hitachi nv45ab2 roofing coil nailer misfires and only shoots every third nail

Hitachi coil roofing nailer will skip nails if the piston oring is worn, the feed spring is weak or lower bumper is cracked. Easy to check. Remove nails and air supply. With side door open point nose of gun up then down again. If the piston moves up and down in the cylinder, replace the piston oring. If piston does not move and is in the up position, check the feed spring for tension. With air supply removed and door open, slide feeder back and press on feeder from door side to check tension. It should spring back to position against rails. If is feels loose, replace spring and retainer pin if the pin is worn. If piston oring is good, and the feeder has good spring tension, suspect lower bumper and the plastic part below the bumper called the "sheet". Remove head and pull the cylinder to examine lower bumper. Parts are available at www.toolpartsdirect.com. Good luck with your repair

Remove nails from the canister and test fire the gun very rapidly with side door open against hard rubber (old tire or coiled up rubber hose ) to absorb the energy. Look for driver and feeder to move in time together and driver should return to top each time. If feeder appears to lag behind, check feeder orings and air passage to feeder piston. If driver appears to come out out nose too far or if it does not go back to top every time suspect problem with bumper or cylinder check seal. Look at feed check built into the side door. These must make contact with nails to prevent miss fire. If all appears to look normal, replace the TVA6 valve if the firing pin fits/feels loose in body of the valve. Miss fire occurs when nail checks do not hold nails in place (feed checks on door and feed piston) and or the piston does not go all the way back up so the nail can not feed into place. Less often, miss fire is caused by lower bumper missing pieces /cracking and the crumbeling bumper pieces enter the feed piston chamber preventing the feeder from making full travel forward. One more area to check is the head /headvalve. Remove head and pull out headvalve. Remove fine scratches on surface of head where orings make contact (use 400 grit paper) and lube with silicone paste lube (sold at Lowes in the plumbing department). Finally check the cylinder seal sitting on top of the cylinder. It should fit very snugly against the cylinder and not turn. If it can be turned, replace with new or remove and apply RTV sealant and replace, then wait 24 hours before use. Good luck

Miss fire usually occurs when piston/driver is bent, piston oring worn, lower bumper cracked or missing pieces or upper bumper is cracked. Easy to check. Remove head and pull piston. If bent try to adjust, but be careful, blade breaks easily. Piston should fit snugly in cylinder, if loose, replace piston oring. If oring/plastic ring ok examine lower bumper for cracks and replace as needed. If lower bumper ok, pull out headvalve and examine upper bumper for cracks. If upper bumper ok, pull cylinder and look for loose check band around cylinder. Check band is black rubber and should be placed around cylinder fitting snuggly covering series of holes. Replace parts as needed and lube with silicone paste sold at Lowes in the plumbing department (or white grease). Good luck

I have a SCN40R gun that doesn't advance the nails in the coil part. What could be the problem. The part that is suppose to advance the next nail doesn't move.

The feed pawl is moved by a piston that extends from a cylinder on the lower side of the guide body. There are a couple seals inside the cylinder that if damaged will not hold enough air to activate the piston and advance the next nail. The two seals are Senco part number LB0828 & LB0845. Better yet get a Senco YK0369 repair kit and replace all of your o-rings, you'll have a like new gun for around $60.

Driver will not retract after firing

Generally caused by three issues. Bent driver, worn or cracked lower bumper or worn piston ring. Remove nails and tilt nose of gun up then down; the driver should not slide up then down cylinder. If driver appears to be loose in the cylinder, replace piston ring. If driver moves up to top with some resistance and stays, then open gun and check lower bumper for cracks or missing pieces. Parts are available at www.toolpartsdirect.com. Good holidays

My Porter Cable FN250A only shoots nails sporadically. When I lift up the nose piece, it appears that the "hammer" is not fully retracting.

Piston not retracting is caused by several issues. Bent or broken driver, worn piston oring or loose or broken check seal. Remove head and examine driver for bent or broken, adjust as needed. Check that piston oring fits snug, piston should not drop down cylinder under its own weight. Pull cylinder from body and check that black band (check seal) is in place around holes in cylinder. Good luck
